hello all new to fourms here and have questions please advice:::

just installed new gtx 460 1 gig with updated drivers. and it was what i thought to be a upgrade from a gtx 285 1 gig. but i just dont see any upgrade at all . should i return it for a more of a upgrade or am i just not looking in the right places for my so called upgrades ... any help would be nice

good day

ps i was runing world of warcraft with the gtx 285 fps is 60 with the gtx 460 its not even getting 35 ???

last gen highend to current gen mid range. Your surprised there is much performance gain?

as for your WOW fps loss.... dunno. Try reinstalling drivers

If you were getting 60FPS, why did you upgrade? 🙂

Looking through those benches, I would say the GTX460 is the faster part, but it's not a gigantic difference. I would return it if you can and go bigger. Or, return it and wait for a week or two. The Radeon 6xxx parts are coming out. They may be an option for you, or at least drop prices of current parts.

The reason I suggest waiting in this case is because we are so close (rumored) to the Radeon 6xxx launch, and you are already getting 60FPS in WoW, so your system is capable enough.

ok then if im able would adding another gtx460 in sli give me better rewards in the end .. or again just return and wait ..i got it from newegg andi have 30 days /... ?

you should have done some research before buying the card because a gtx460 is no better than a gtx285. in fact in many cases it will be slower.

what are the rest of the specs for you pc as getting another gtx460 may not be a good option?

i did read and do research and all i found was thatsthe 460 was better

my mother board is a
asus crosshair formula 3 im sure its a 790 chip set
6 gigs of ram ddr3 1600
1 1terbit hard drive
amd x4 965
750 watt power supply
25 inche asus montior

thats the basics

thats just a link some one else posted i looked around at others also ..
i did not come here to get flamed .. troll some where else. if advice is not something u can give without smart ace comments ..

if i would be inclind to i guess go to the 5870 would that be better arethe driver support any better than in past events ..i was looking for good support and some what of a upgrade ...

that's what made you upgrade from a gtx285 to a gtx460? really? did you even look through the other benchmarks on there because a gtx460 is only 1-3 fps better in some games and even slower in a couple? how on earth were actually expecting an improvement even based on what you just linked to???

Another one for the GTX460 advertising campaign. Perhaps overclocking the GTX460 will reap some benefits, as they are portrayed as having great overclocking potential.

well I said you should have done research before you bought the card and you said you did. you then point to a review that shows the gtx460 being more than 1-3 fps in one game and actually actually in others. you obviously dont pay attention to what is right in front of you or you would not have bought the gtx460 now would you? :hmm: 😛

anyway I would not fool with the 5870 right now because the 6870/6850 are launching next week and prices could go down. just send the gtx460 back next week and see what happens when the 6870/6850 launches. at that point you should be able to get a better price on a better card. 😉

perhaps but its certainly not worth 220 bucks to get a card and then overclock it just to make it better than what you already had. I would send it back if possible.

im not good at over clocking or i might would try im just looking for the best to give me more than the 285 is all and sence the 460 is the same card some say ..would again the 5870 be a better choice and maybe going crossfire in a couple of months on that 5870 ?

thanks "toyota" for the simple reply .. so again would the 5870 be better in the long run then ? i have never had ati card only gefroce due to alot of issues with drivers.. any input would be nice

I have heard that WoW is very cpu limited, and not so much gpu limited. You might be better off upgrading your cpu (can you give the details of your computer and the resolution you play at?)

again wait till next week to make that choice.

yes think i will sence the return on this card is 30 days gives me time i guess
yeah hopefully the 6870/6850 will launch with good performance and decent prices so all of these other cards can drop a bit. the 6870 should be quite a bit faster than gtx460 so that may be a good option too.

any idea on the price point ??? and if so the 5870 should drop alot also right ? or even the 5900 line ?
well $249 is what many are thinking for the 6870. anything more than that and prices of some other cards probably wont get drastically lower.

now one more question has the drivers for ati cards gotten better or the same old junkie drivers will i gain any thing going from gefroce to ati other than just a better card ... i know ill lose somethings .and i hear that ati dont work great with Amd cpus ??

the cards work fine with AMD or Intel cpus plus AMD and ATI are the same company. in fact they will no longer use the ATI name for gpus from now on. drivers are a touchy subject as there are bad examples from both Nvidia and ATI. I personally prefer Nvidia myself and I especially don't like the CCC for ATI.
