Sup everyone, I wanted to ask... what are some of the more common embedded/EE-oriented engineering firms in the Southern California area? Really, I'm just looking for the name of the company so I can apply. ive earned an EE ugrad.

I'm aware of the big names like Northrup Grumman and Raytheon -- but how about some of the medium sized companies?

For instance, in the Pac-NW you'll obviously hear about Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing... but a lot of smaller companies kinda just fly under the radar until you see them at local job fairs. A borderline example of this would be fluke networks, based in Everett. I know they're well known for their test equipment -- but it's also the kind of company you normally wouldn't automatically associate the seattle area with either. It's only because I see them at local career fairs that i know they exist... in like fashion, I'm sure there are many companies in california that are just like this.

thanks for the info!

Are you looking to move from Seattle? There are literally thousands of medium sized companies in SoCal (I've worked with many). Your best bet is a career fair. Another great thing is search "engineering" in monster and start looking up the companies you see.

Yup exactly, I'd like to move from Seattle to California, ideally southern california, but I'll take the bay area too.

In general, I do agree that career fairs would definitely be the best way to find out about the smaller companies -- I just figured I'd ask here for some tips as a springboard into finding out who is around the area.

I am from San Diego (but don't live there anymore), so here are some in San Diego:

Qualcomm, Broadcom, Agilent, LG, Cisco, Motorola, Department of defense (civil service).

There are many more, but those are the big ones that come to mind. I'll add them if I remember...

Edit: Sony, HP, SAIC, Teradata...
