I have been trying to get the most out of my Athlon XP 2000+ (1.664GHz). I have been using SoB to try and gauge how its going.

I first uped it to 1.7Ghz and the thing ran just fine. So I decided lets try 1.8

It booted just fine and started up just fine. I tried to run SoB but it was getting bad results. So I figured my RAM going. I then switched my ram from 333 to 266. This allowed the speed of the RAM to remain under its spec (333) even when I uped the FSB.

I stared it up and no go. Hmm So I put back the ram to 333 and clocked it to 1.75Ghz. It has posted and is running SoB just fine. But it seems as if SoB is actually running slower now!

I can't be for sure but I don't think the N would have changed in that small of a time period. And its not a little difference. At 1.7GHz I was getting 210000 but now I am getting 178000!

So do you guys think my CPU just can't take it over 1.7?

Is there anyway to get it to run stable at the higher speed? I want to make sure I am giving them good number of course.

I still can't understand how its running slower now!

I guess its time to go back to stock and see what I get on this N.

Hmmmmmmm

Well here are the spec. Hmm I need to put a link to my rigs in my signature...

CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
Mobo: Soyo Dragon Ultra (Black) (No BIOS updates) (Newest 4in1s)
RAM: DDR 333 Samsung
HD: Maxtor 30gig ATA133 7200RPM
GC: Radion 7200? (Maby lower than that. Its the original with 32meg DDR. :p It will play UT2003!)
HS/Fan: AX-7 with panflo 40 CFM (Runs at 44C under load. Well sorta look below to see what I mean...)

Umm I think thats all you need here is the junk connected to it. :p
iPAQ
USB Hub
100 Zip Drive (USB)
MS Natural Keyboard
MS Intelimouse Explorer
Maby other stuff I am not thinking of right now...

Now about the temp. I have it running at 1.75GHz and its only 42C Wait never mind, thats becuase I just started SB :p

Oh yeah I just turned the RAM from cas 2.5 to cas 2. Looks to be running ok....

The usual next step is to bump the CPU core voltage about 0.1V over stock and scoot the DIMM voltage to around 2.7V, but maybe you did that already? Also, hopefully your PSU is reasonably strong, like 200W+ on the 3.3V + 5V rails combined? (actually, even 185W would probably get the job done if it's a good one like an Enermax, Antec or Sparkle Power)

I have an Antec 400 Watt powersupply.

I haven't messed with voltage yet simply becuase I want to lean out my heatsink and case first. I usually get atleast 2C decrease just from that.

I have two AXP 2000+ machines here....

with PC2700 RAM (auto/CAS2) the best OC I could get with my systems
was 1775 on one and 1763 on the other.

My rig page

Vcore = 1.850
Vio = 3.65
Vddr = 2.65

These are Palominos, so I wasn't too surprised with the result. Also, my MoBo only supports up to AXP 2100+

One would, but it wasn't stable after that.

The other one wouldn't even boot.
