i just noticed something strange

i setup two P3-450 PC's a couple days ago and installed SB

started work at the same time

now, two days later, one has finished 24 blocks while the other 31

the difference?

the slow one is running win95 and the fast one running WinXP

why would XP be faster running SB?

(the PC's are exactly the same model/hardware/ram, etc)

The speed depends entirely on the k and n values of the tests being worked on. It's probably just coincidence that the WinXP one got the faster values of k and n.

On another thought...

SB, IIRC, uses MMX, SSE and SSE2 enhancements, which will, of course, speed things up. At the time of Win95's release, SSE had not been thought of, let alone MMX (which came before SSE). I can't remember when SSE came into Intel's lineup, but that could also have something to do with it

There are three times concerning users provided by SOB in their stats dumps: sign-up time, first assign time, and last report time. The first two times are not necessarily equal. To determine new users, I take the sign-up time and if it is within 24 hours of the time the stats report is run, the user is tagged as new.
