SoB classic client unable to connect to server?

VirtualLarry

No Lifer
I recently changed my classic client settings. At one point, there was a problem with the default server, so people were instructed to put in an IP address. I was having problems with teh server, so I tried changing it back to what I remember.

Isn't the server supposed to be sb.pns.net? Or is it different now? Can someone else that is sucessfully running the classic client give me the server IP/domain that I am supposed to punch in to the client?

Just trying to figure this out, I have two completed WUs that need to be submitted.

Ok, I punched that in, and they are saying "couldn't report to server" still.

This machine's internet connection is fine, I'm posting from it.

C:\Documents and Settings\Larry>nslookup sb.pns.net

I tried putting in the IP address, and no go. Looks like the server is gone, gone, gone.

I tried putting in the IP address, and no go. Looks like the server is gone, gone, gone.

The bold domain names are still incorrect.

I pinged sbp.pns.net and it worked. The IP used was: 69.9.160.188

I think that perhaps I have figured out the problems. Not 100% sure though because I haven't tried re-installing.

But I had two tests in progress when I went on vaca for three months. When I went to the SoB web site, it only showed that I had one test outstanding, which must be the one on my mom's computer, that was turned on briefly by a friend while we were away.

So perhaps my tests got reassigned, and when my clients go to return the results for that test, the server doesn't respond.

Of course, my theory might be completely wrong here. You would think that the client-server communication would be better-designed, and it would report a particular error for a test no longer being worked on, rather than gumming up the works and preventing another WU from downloading.

I may re-install SoB, or I may just quit the project, I don't know.

I never got this resolved. A relative's machine was also giving this error, and I never changed the config on that machine. So it's not a config issue.

You would think that they would announce if they were shutting down support for the classic client on their web site, but perhaps not.

I'm basically done with SoB now I guess. If they won't support their clients, I'm not going to support them.

Is there some reason you don't want to use the newer client?

Using the Prime95 client is a hack and is severely lacking in features. I don't think that you can install it as a service, and I didn't see any way to finish the current WU and then stop/exit processing, like you can with the classic client.
