Thought I'd check in. I'm almost at the end of month 2 living onboard the Norwegian Star cruising from Seattle to Alaska. Best job I've ever had.

Is anyone coming on this cruise? I'll buy you a drink.

For those of you who like nature - this is where you want to be.

Wait what. I was on the Norwegion Pearl end of MAy on a Seattle to Alaska trip and saw the Second City show. Happen to be on that one?

I know those guys - we have lunch every Wednesday in Skagway.

FWIW: Satellite internet is slow as hell.

Nope - I wasn't sure before I actually got onboard but as it turns out, I don't get seasick. At least, not yet. We've had some pretty rough days at sea though - frankly I think it's kind of fun :D

Star - C6FR3 is our sister. She's decently stable up in the PNW passages. Unfortunately we've never been west of the canal to experience those waters. However if you haven't been scared by Poseidon you have not looked into his eyes - yet! ;)

Sat 'net (Inmarsat-B) you're using is meh. I know I would NOT be neffin' for $.20/min on that undoubtedly. Supposedly ALL ships were going to get much faster internet but (as with everything else!) the economy is really messing with everything. I'd love to do AK though.

How have you been passing the time on the ship? Catching up on reading and movies?

My old college roomate worked stage management on a cruise line for for 2 years. I think he did 4 months on, 2 off or something. He loved it for the first year, and was ready to be done with it after two.

I did 3 months in Hawaii on the Pride of Aloha, now the Norwegian Sky.

Coming out of Kauai tended to have some amazing seas as you end the Kauai channel. Would sit in the back on the top deck and watch it rock up and down. At the top you saw nothing but sky and down you saw nothing but ocean. Was pretty awesome experience.

Oh.... most awesome experience was riding the elevator from deck 4 to deck 12 in heavy seas.

The ship is rocking side to side and front to back so the elevator is essentially oscillating as you go up. Imagine going up in an elevator shaft shaped like a corkscrew.

Yeah, that sounds about right. It's a great gig for four months and then on to something else :)
