so you graduate and you're sad cuz you're never gonna see people again. vowing to stay in touch you exchange email addresses.

around august it starts: the forward.

at first its from one or two people usually girls, next thing you know your inbox is FULL of them. your friends, aquantinces and even friends of friends are all now forwarding you crap and its no longer gender bias, its boys too now! you sit and wonder: am i the only one that hates getting this crap? cuz all these people in the forward list seem to be sending you crap. never a word to say whats up or hows it going but emails upon emails of "the whys of men..", "what best friends are..", "take this quiz..". so around october you start to email people kindly asking them to remove you from their forward list but encouraging them to write you an email saying whats up and how they are in their new place in life you recieve no further communication from these people who at one time were emailing you sometimes daily!

then it comes the "why do people send forwards?" forward where in it says that the purpose of the forward is to make people know that you are thinking of them when you dont have time to send an email. it appears that by asking to be removed from the forward list you've made some sort of faux pas and have offended people.

you feel bad for a second.

then you remember all they have to do is hit "forward all"
then you think of all the stupid emails you arent getting now and smile.


yeah so just a little warning from me. there is nothing you can do to stop the forwarding obsession it seems all kids get when they move into college (esp. in the dorms!) but i thought you'd like to know ahead of time whats in store for you.

i stopped giving my main email address out to family and friends that are just starting to use the internet and the like. i hate forwards.
 
I was a chronic forwarder when I started college. A lot of my high school friends were as well...it was the easiest way to let everyone know you're still alive. After I adjusted to my new environment, though, and made some close friends, I became a much more selective forwarder. Now I forward stuff only to the 10 or so people I know will most appreciate it. And since I forward pretty infrequently, no one asks me to sotp forwarding them stuff anymore (because I NEVER send chain letters, "school projects", or forwards about how much finals suck.)
 
I dont know why people do that crap...people in my family forward junk around to each other all the time(who knows why) and every time I'm helping my grandma get her e-mail on her sloowwww dialup connection it takes like an hour downloading all that junk mail. /sigh some people just dont get it.

I never forward anything. What very few friends i do have are very close, i talk to them in person everyday. :Q
 
thanx for the advice. only four of my friends know my email address, however, and they are not the type to forward (I hope)

What is forwarding for? I don't use this 'feature', and I seldom get any forwarded stuff. It's just laziness not to write a couple of lines but just to make a single click, it's a sign of attention, IMO.

I also hate pointless forwards like that, I'd like to reply to everyone who forwarded it with "DUMB SH!T" but I'm not that mean..
 
I get more forward bullcrap from my mom who gets it from all her friends. Can't people take two seconds to check and see if the "Billy needs a new liver" chain letter is really a hoax? I'm pretty selective about giving out my e-mail, so hopefully I'll avoid the mass forwarding.

Ameesh, you realize that Bill Gates doesn't give you $368 for every forward you do, but instead it's $368 for every post you make at AT.🙂 That's why we have so many Nefs and the like; they're in it for the money.😉 Now I've just earned myself a new GF4, and on to earning that new Athlon to go with it.😛

I'll take you off the forward list. (you could have just PM'd me about it...)

LOL 😉

The other thing I hate is my address floating around on those lists, just use BCC (blind carbon copy) if you are going to include me in a list.
