So you're given this incredible opportunity...

to be able to teleport wherever you want whenever you want without worrying about inertia. But there's a catch. In order to gain this power, you have to ram a wooden dowel (1-2 cm in diamter) through your hand every night before you go to bed. It's completely healed in the morning, but if you ever don't ram a wooden dowel through your hand, you lose the ability forever.

Would you take advantage of this opportunity? If so, for how long?

Credit for this questions goes to some of my friends who don't frequent the forum.

EDIT: Perfectionism. :s

Thats simple.

Either take enough pain meds so that I don't feel it, or cut off circulation to my hand so I don't feel it.

You still have to do it (say before midnight). It heals before, say, 6 AM.

Looks like I think like whoever voted first :)

-yes

-How the heck should I know?

(I don't know how much this is going to hurt, and don't know how long it would take for me to accomplish enough with it that I wouldn't need it anymore)

You would probably never be able to sleep before 6am then.
Unless you get incredibally used to pain

lol Not an original idea. :) I have a friend who comes up with crazy questions like this all the time. Usually they're in the form of "would you rather" questions.

ok...

do I have to do it before like a mid-day nap?
what happens if I sleep for 24 hours non-stop but did it just before I went to bed?

Yes of course I would do it. Think of all the possibilities of this power. You could basically get wasted and travel all around the world, doing nothing but ramming a dowel in your hand once a night and stealing money to make a great living.

There are ways around this. Try not to get too particular. It's the general idea that's important. :)

The idea is once every 24 hours. If you sleep for more than 24 hours, you lose it. :p If you want to keep it, you should set an alarm.

this question is invalid. if you had no inertia, you would be going the speed of light, but since that takes infinite energy for something with mass, you would be forced to forfeit all mass and only exist in spirit. you would, therefore, be rendered useless and you couldnt do anything cool but look at naked chicks in the shower or locker room.

id still do it, though.

well, it occurs to me that I could just teleport to a new timezone pretty easily and just take catnaps. It'd never hit midnight.

but I might do it anyways just so I could harrass all 7 women on ATOT in real time.

I didn't say you have no inertia. I said you don't have to worry about it. Maybe you're equipped with some sort of futuristic inertial dampener. Again, it's the idea that's important; you wouldn't really be able to take full advantage of the opportunity without this provision.

2) OMG TELEPORT

Can you use a machine to slam the wooden dowel thru your hand, or is this done by hand so to speak?
