So you're at a poker game, and someone starts mixing orange soda with your single malt Scotch...

Do you:

1. Say something?
2. Just let it go?
3. Try to sneak in some cheap Scotch so he doesn't waste the good stuff?

(I did #3 - I poured some White Horse in an empty bottle of Dalwinnie so he wouldn't waste any more MaCallan)

With *MY* scotch? There is no way he is drinking out of my scotch. If it's his, I let him know he's a dumbass, but live and let live.

That is stupidity of a level that cannot be ignored. Kind of like my brother mixing my Lagavulin with Diet Pepsi.

And next time hide the good stuff when he's around.

I think that's the most polite answer. It's just hard to watch someone waste good Scotch when they don't taste the difference anyway.

Lagavulin and Diet Pepsi. My God.

He has no idea he was pouring the best Scotch on the market into a soda.

Maybe they aren't familiar with what a good scotch is and don't know better. I would tell them that they're drinking a really good scotch which shouldn't be mixed and ask them to use a different bottle if they're going to mix it. Any reasonable person would understand.

My uncle has gotten on my case for drinking CHEAP scotch with coke (Grant's or Bell's).

Good scotch I always drink straight, both with and without ice. I love a top notch scotch kept in the freezer and served neat.

I don't mind if someone wants ice, or water...but orange soda means you aren't getting taste at all. That is a total waste.

Mixing is a waste. If you're going to drink scotch, drink scotch. If you want funny-tasting orange soda, throw in some shitty vodka or something.

I would've taken that glass and poured it down the drain and ripped my brother a new one.

Mother of god...just thinking about Lagavulin mixed with anything but a slight amount of water riles me up

Any good scotch really. What a waste. Years and years of waiting lost in a wash of HFCS crap.

Actually, I've had a decent cocktail made with a 16YO Irish single malt. On the other hand, that was a once in a lifetime occasion. As a matter of course, I would never, EVER mix Scotch. Either drink it straight or not at all.

No, you just wont be able to taste any of the things that make a Fine single malt a fine single malt :(

Vodka's good from the freezer though, but thats because its got no decent flavor anyway.

What if I ask stupid "what if" questions?

If you're offering your guest a drink, it's up to them how they would like it. Not you. As far as I know no one here is the annointed police of good taste.

No its not.

They dont get to chug it out the bottle.
They dont get to fill a bucket.
And they dont get to mix a Single malt thats probably older than them with orange soda.

And I am the anointed policeman of good taste.

So now you know.
