So, you have $100, no place to stay, no job, etc.

Ok, so here is the deal....
You just got dropped off in a strange town, you know nobody, you have no place to live, you haven't eaten all day, etc. You have no life, no rescuers, but you have $100 in your pocket. Let's see your trek from jobless, homeless, destitute and hungry, to getting a job, not being homeless, to some modicum of success. You have 90 days to die, survive, or become a success, and get yourself into a stabil scenario. How ya gonna do it?

Let's see. The responses should be interesting. :)

Oh, and selling your body, or selling cars do not count. Both are whores. ;)

use the $100 to buy a cheap handgun...after that, money is fairly easy to come by...and if you get caught...3 hots & a cot are yours for a long time...;)

Find homeless shelter, soup kitchen, and a goodwill. Buy a used suit or two.. <$20. Get a pay-as-you-go cell phone for finding work. Get a 35 cent paper, go through classifieds. Get job.

I'd either go the handgun route, or find the tallest building in proximity and hope that there is no chance I could survive the fall.

I'm pretty confident that at the VERY least I can walk into any retail store, fast food restaurant, and get a job on the spot if they're hiring.

I'd probably wouldn't start there though... all I'd have to do is go to any company and see if they needed some IT/Engineering work and do it for them.

If they don't want to take a chance because I'm homeless, I'll tell them I'll do it for minimum wage for a week and if I work out I'll keep working for them.

EASY.

*ahem*... "Stable." Like where you put the horses. :p

(or "Stabile," I suppose, which would be closer to your meager attempt...;))

Back in 2002, I arrived in Los Angeles with $500, 2 suitcases, no friends, no family, no connections, no job, and no place to live.

I asked the cab driver to take me to a church, where I figured there would be some nice people who might be able to help me out.

I befriended and was taken in by a kind-hearted breakdancer/bboy, applied for a job at a major motion picture studio, was hired within 2 weeks, found a place to live via craigslist, got by via (terrible!) public transportation until I purchased a car via craigslist, and enjoyed many fine dinners consisting of red beans and rice.

Five years later, I have completely removed myself from the "breakdancing scene," save for a friendship with Jacob. I am currently alive, well, and relatively successful. :)

First order of business looks to be food. Hit up a gas station for a $3 styrofoam cooler and walmart (or if the gas station is sufficiently cheap) for some sandwich fixin's and ice. If it's a rough area, next order is shelter. Get out of the rough area and find a little niche or something to crash in later, or if the area's cheap enough get a ****** apt. Then go out and get a job, look for the most $ you can but snag a job if you can find one, work as much as they'll let you and in the meantime look for a better paying job. Ideally find a place that's near your apt/an apt that's near a bunch of possible places to work so you don't have to take the transport. Or go get a bike. Make connections, get in better situations, get stuff you need as the needs arise, store away some savings, and when you have enough cash start buying ****** that you know is worth more and resell it (if you want to go that route; it's not as surefire but it will get you more $ if you play it right). Keep it all up until your lease in your ****** apt expires, or you have enough cash to be able to afford to break the lease contract and move into a better apt. By this time, you should be turning a big net profit with your trading (again this is assuming you know what you're doing with that), or at the very least have a better job (ideally $15/hour or better, more if it's an expensive area to live in). Of course, use the connections you made to get this better job. Don't burn any bridges with anybody you meet, even if they're jerks; you never know who knows people.

Thanks for the posts so far. I have actually pulled this off, but that was back in 1983.
I could do it again, if I had to.

And charm the midnight clerk at the local truck stop for a place to get warm, and a shower. Oh and also find the workforce commision or a feed shop and find day labor.

I've spent a couple of years just wandering around right after high school, and have made $20 feed me for a month. It's also easy if you can live on a burger a day, or dumpster dive at grocery stores at the right time.

I'd be fine as long as I had a decent set of clothes on.

I have great interpersonal/social intelligence. I'd rely on kindess of strangers to help me along for the first week in terms of shelter and resources like phone/internet etc. I would probably offer to buy a weeks groceries w/ my 100 as a sign of good faith.

I'd get to a Kinko's, type up a resume, and get a job...

I still have skills and a work history so starting from scratch wouldn't be too awful...Oh, and I have a security clearance for that matter

Hit up the largest Catholic church in the area and explain the situation. I'd bunk up at their community shelters and use that as a halfway home until I gained employment. I would explain to them that once I was stable I would repay them for the food and shelter they provided me.

Assuming I retained my current skills and intelligence, finding a job would not be difficult. It would require getting accepted at an entry level position, but I would quickly prove my worth and post out to something better.

In many cities the homeless shelters are in the downtown areas of the cities, usually located near the hospitals. And many hospitals are affiliated with the local churches. I could easily earn a job working as a tech/assistant to an ancillary services. I could walk to work for the few weeks it took me to get some paychecks under my belt and I'd be scouting for cheap apartments/roomates in the local postings provided by the church/hospital.

After that it's just a matter of moving back through the ranks.
