I've got a list I carry with me:

Portable Firefox and Thuderbird
Partition Magic
Nod32 Standalone
Modified Knoppix with Clamav for scanning windows partitions
Spybot
Microsoft Spyware
Antivir
Evergreen Computer System Utility
I keep a collection of a few hundred printer drivers for windows
Startup control Panel (this is a gem)
Adaware
Standard PC Toolkit

------------------------

What else should I have with me to fix the standard windows corruptions, etc.

I stay legit. If they don't have their own cd, I explain to them they have to buy one. I get that out of the way fast.

I use the ultimatebootcd as a base, and then build my own version as directed at their website. I add browseable files for the running machine, and use the boot feature on ones with bad hardware.

Good list, I have a very similar list. I also find my Ultra Leatherman tool indespensible.

Porn.

On a related topic, when I fix a computer one of the greatest things is an external enclosure so I can work on a hard drive from my laptop which has a bunch of utilities.

i found that not working on personal desktops is much better. at least in a corporate environment I can just re-image something that is way f'ed up much faster than trying to fix it.

I have a 4GB Cruzer mini with so many programs, trials and freeware it is almost full now.
Most people I visit are only usually affected by lots of spyware, not enough RAM, and too many starup programs!

tools and my laptop. if it it can't be fixed with those things, it either can't be fixed or they need some part, which they will need to pay for. the only reason i even need the laptop is when i need to get on the internet and their computer can't/won't go online. i found out early on that it didn't make too much sense to keep a stock of parts or programs. just buy what you need once you know what you need. and if they need some special program to do what they want, i'll make them pay for it, and let them keep it. also, if they don't have the disks for something, tough sh!t for them. they can buy a new one. i'm not going to let them pirate mine. if your car needs a new muffler, your mechanic doesn't let you use his muffler. ;) obviously, i'll track down the parts and programs and acquire them, but i bill for them.

Great list, downloading a good majority of them. Can't seem to find a freeware standalone spyware or antivirus program though

Lots of their cases require something strong and thin to pop it open (ala minimac). . .
