SO, you are driving along and you see there is a traffic problem up ahead.

And traffic is stopped in one lane. Cars are backed up and it's obvious that the problem is in the left lane.

What if the problem is in the right lane? You should change the poll to say "correct lane" instead.

I personally get the in the correct lane if I must stay on the road, or just detour around the problem if possible.

I hate the a-holes that try to skip the line. I never let them in, but someone always does :|

It depends on the issue. If we are in touch & go trafic, it isn't always possible to get over as soon as you see the issue. Generally, I slow down some and begin to look for an opening. Once i can merge, i do.

The thing that really angers is the fact that long lines are almost always a result of the people forcing their way in up front. If everyone would get in the correct lane with everyone else then the traffic would keep flowing. But you've always got those idiots that try to pass as many people as they can before the get over.

everyone who passes all the people in the right lane, gaining maybe 20 cars lengths and assume some good Samaritan up ahead will allow me to pull over into the right lane further up, should be killed asap

I was coming back to my hotel from Disney World in Florida this year and they were merging all of I-4 into one lane of traffic. We must have been there for an hour.

I saw that everyone was slowly merging into the far left lane so I merged into the middle lane (I was in the far right). Nobody in the far left lane where I was would let me in, even though I had my blinker on and everything. There was finally a small gap that I finally started to squeeze in, but this punk from UF with his girlfriend speeds up and blocks my way. This kept on for about five minutes where I would try to slowly merge in front of him and he would practically move his car within inches of mine on the side.

Pissed me off so bad I almost went off, but I decided to let him have his fun and stayed in my lane until I finally got in front of someone who was decent enough to let me in.

That's why you move over at the back of the line.

Anyway, wrecks are a bit different since you may come up on the rather suddenly, but road construction is different. They almost always have signs miles back warning you which lane is closing. Then there will be a sign about a mile away that says. "Merge Now". Now, if everyone actually did merge at that point then you would be much less likely to end up with a jam and slow moving traffic. But no... there are always those a-holes that fly past everyone and try to shove their way in up front. That is what results in the jam.

would you rather get into a car accident? the a-hole that's trying to get in will most likely not give up. =\

Lane closures don't just pop up. All of the ones I've encountered give you plenty of notification that you need to merge over. However 90% of the people ignore it until they are on top of the flash arrow telling them to move over.

I always appreciated it when I saw two 18-wheelers crawling side-by-side before a lane reduction, to prevent people from doing that. Really warms my heart.

The most efficient way to move traffic is if everyone merges at the last minute. Everything moves faster if you use both lanes for as long as they are available.
