Imagine coming out of law school with $250K worth of debt. :(

Why the hell would someone go in knowing they would come out with $250k in debt? Hell you can start a pretty decent business with that saved up somewhere. Or invest it and work a job that pays well for a few years and add that in. I would NEVER go to Uni knowing I'd come out $250k in debt. That to me is just insane.........

I know education in the states is pricey but THAT is INSANE to me. I'm glad I don't have to pay those kind of fees in the UK.........

You have 8 years of experience. Go higher. You are not just a graduate. You have 8years experience. A graduate has ah heck ALL experience. You are worth much more. Hell I'd be inclined in most jobs to take a person with 8yrs experience then a graduate who has know practical knowledge of the job. A degree is just a piece of paper saying you can learn and adapt. Some have more practical values but you are not tried and tested. A person who has done the job with no degree is tried and tested.

Good luck.

I hope when I finish in about 2years I get a good job :D. That would be about £20k start here in UK or £22k if your lucky. See how it goes for me.........

ps my education is costhing £1100 ~ $1600 a year. All the Uni's cost the SAME. £1100 or maybe £1150 this year? Well the fact is all of our Uni's cost the same to go to. From the lowest rank right up to Oxford and Cambridge. The fee is the exact same. Just more competition to get in to the better ones. Note also the government helps pay the £1100 tuition fee also if your family exarns less then £20k or something near to that a year. If your family earns more you get no help. You can also apply for student loan and such that is a max of £4800 a year and that is if you go to a London Uni. Else where the max is about £3600. So the max you can come out with is £18k ~ $27k going to a London Uni doing a 3 year degree. Just add £6k per year of education.

Medics do a 6year degree and it costs the same as any other degree.

The only difference is if your a foreign student. You pay £10k a year at my Uni for CS. It various from degree to degree. Medicene is the most £££ I think.

So anyways it turns out that she wanted to talk to me about my future with this company. Am graduating next spring semester so am guessing that since I haven?t spoken to them about my future with the company, they thought they might loose me, so they want speak to me first. She said that I will slowly move into a position as a Project Manager.

I've been with this company 8 years this coming Christmas. I have been working full and part time with them. For the past couple of month I?ve been working as ON CALL duty because the company was doing badly. Haven?t gotten a raise in 2 years due to the firing of all my supervisors.

So what do you think a good starting salary would be for me?

I manage a mid-size network, work as a desktop support, some AutoCAD drawings, as copy boy and other crap for the company.

Will get my BS degree in Telecommunications (which what this company does)

Thanks for listening

You'll almost never get what you are worth from small companies... at least not in my experience. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

I'd guess they'll offer $40-50k

You are probably correct, and yet there are many people here who scoff at A+, MCSE, CNE and other "worthless" certificates.

You really can't compare the UK system to the states. Here any school not in your home state is major bucks....if you are lucky to have the top school in your home state (assuming its a public school) and get accepted to it, then you can waltz through at about $1000-2000 per year and double that for grad school + fees + books + labs + etc....on top of that I have no idea what your TAX system is like other than that's why we have the United States now ;)

Now that $250k in the US can be paid back at an insanely low APR (%) and terms of 10-15 years are standard....I think the max can be 20-30 years. Still $250k over your head sux...I hate $1000 over my head.

The thing is saving $250k is a lot different than getting a school loan for $250k. As a white male I am out of luck, but the fact is the US Gov't does have that kind of money available sometimes for certain minority groups to start businesses. Second sad note, is they have way more money available for education for those same groups....

I went to school for 5 years on $7700 in loans (mostly due to savings)....I did two years at $32k :( mostly due to my fiancee not giving me her real financial status as she saved at my expense to buy a brand new car and townhouse during my two years (thanks to her dad who hated that my dad was her mother's boss).

So 7 years at about $40k...if I had grad school/med school about $100k perhaps (due to books and fees more than tutition).
