Will they blindly defend tooth and nail their idol of choice, or will they be as open and honest/critical as they were to others?

To be honest, I think Obama will piss off people from both the right AND left. I think he will be more of a centrist than anything else, contrary to all the liberal bla bla bla going around. Watch the libs cry foul when picks a few republicans to his cabinet, and watch the righties cry foul when he does well..... anything because he is a dem.

Obama will upset people on the left, just like Bush upset people on the right, but I'm sure Obama will have a brigade of defenders and apologists no matter what he does, just like every president has had.

No we wont. I am already ready to criticize Obama. But keep in mind I dont stick to party loyalty like Republicans under the Bush admin.

I view everything in a rationalist view and I think democrats, repubs, and independents voted for Obama because he was the RATIONALIST choice in the election, not for any of the reasons CNN said.

That said, Obama's speech inspired me to a new level of patriotism last night and I'd love to get involved in federal service ASAP. Last nights speech was humble, inspired, and broad. I think anyone should have been touched by it and hopefully it will inspire a new love for America on both sides of the aisle... could be the dawn of a new gilded age for us! One can hope :p

Also keep in mind Obama is starting out much more earnestly then Bush did in NOT burning bridges. He didn't gloat at all last night. When Bush said he wanted to "reach across aisles" everyone gave him a chance but it just seemed disingenuous. Time will tell I suppose but I'd suggest we all keep an open mind.

President Clinton had his army of defend-at-all-costs, admit-nothing supporters. President Obama will have his as well.

Okay, I will watch for the "libs" cry foul when Mr Obama picks a few Republicans.

If things go bad for Mr Obama, we will see a similar breakdown of support for him as Mr Bush sees. Mr Obama would have an approval rating of around 30% and everyone else will be screaming for his head.

If Obama tries to do any of the dumb-ass shit Bush did, I will be the first to call him on it.

My allegiance is to the principles of democracy on which this country was founded...and he better not try to fuck-around with the Constitution.

I think that this sums it up best.

QFT. I don't know why the OP assumes that Obama supporters would be mad when he proves to be centrist. I voted for him BECAUSE I believe him to be centrist and pragmatic.

Keep in mind that Bush has the lowest approval rating ever. You can't really lump Clinton supporters in with Bush supporters because Clinton generally maintained an approval rating of about 50-60%, with a low point of 36% after the U.S. got involved in Somalia.

There will always be a few people who tirelessly defend their chosen President, no matter how much he messes up, and they're annoying no matter who they defend. But Clinton's defenders at least weren't entirely out of the norm. Bush's defenders are.

Political hacks are political hacks, regardless of political affiliation. This forum has plenty of both, so the answer to your question is YES.

Uhh.. there are crazy people everywhere that blindly support somebody regardless of what they do. This phenomena is not exclusive to Obama.

One diffeence between Obama supporters and Bush supporters is that Obama supporters won't have to defend the state of the Union because it was better whne he took over like Bush did.

Shocking, suddenly calling out your horrendous bullshit is 'blindly defending' someone.

The media will attack Obama, because that's what the media does. They are fundamentally oppositional to the power structure, that's how they make their money.

we shall see if the media starts acting like the media again instead of an extension of BHO's campaign.

Yes, there has been nary an issue that people play apologist for BHO on during the campaign the last 6 months.

You're like the boy who cried wolf. If you hadn't been charging into any anti-Obama thread that you saw over the last 2 months and declaring everyone in it an apologist, no matter how ridiculous the charge, you might have some credibility on the subject.

As for the media, it won't 'go back' to doing anything. It will do the same thing that it always does with a new president. Be nice to him for a month or two, and then they start digging.
