so why is the UAW representing graduate assistants at NYU?

I saw that eariler this week in our campus newspaper. I'd think at least a teachers union would be representing them at least.

Actually, now that I think about it, my older sister is a nurse and they might be unionized through the UAW.

You know, they reporesented ours too, (UC riverside), I never understood why, or what was the link between the two...
 
There's electricians in town here that are represented by the Commercial Foodworker's local.
There's construction laborers in that Local, too.
It was explained to me that:
1.) They'd take them.
2.) They had a lower rate by going that way, and the company they were working for was more inclined not to raise a stink because if they get laid off, they can't go to work somewhere else (in the construction industry).
