that's still $375 and 75 dollar cheaper than the ones on ebay? granted, you have to jailbreak it yourself, or find someone to do it for like $25 bucks. So has anyone done it?

Beyond the price of the phone, there's a $30 fee for starting service and you have to wait 30 days and pay for a month's worth of service before you can terminate the contract. I got pretty far down the path of buying a new one from AT&T with the intention of breaking the contract but when I looked at all the fees and conditions, I gave up and bought one from someone on Craigslist for $400 for a white 16GB 3G.

With a new iPhone on the way soon, one would think that there are likely to be a lot of 3G iPhone's for sale on Ebay and craigslist soon from those people who have to have the new thing. I would guess that prices will drop.

Jailbreaking the 2/3G phones are CAKE nowadays. Anyone with the ability to read 9 steps worth of instructions can do it. It not worth paying someone $25 to do it.

pm makes a good point - expect prices on the older ones to drop. I wouldn't expect to have the new iPhone or one running 3.0 jailbroken for at least another month or so, depending on the new security changes they put into place.

The new iPhones (the iPhone 3GS) probably won't be jailbroken until much later this year. But I will bet anyone that the new 3.0 firmware for the original and 3G iPhones will be jailbroken within a week of it's release, and that both the original iPhone and the 3G iPhone will be unlocked within a month after that... if not sooner.

They have already jailbroken all the iPhone 3.0 beta releases... and the dev team has been hinting that they have a 3G iPhone unlock for the new 3.0 firmware but they are waiting for the 3.0 release before they release it.
