So why do we need the depth of field effect for graphics?

We don't need to placed in the game. On even a 19" monitor, if I focus on something on the screen, the other parts are blurry, just like in real life. Why do we need to add this effect in artificially?

We don't need it, and if it was used in a FPS game, I would ruin it completely. Imagine playing CS:S, and when you're aimed at something close by, all distant objects on your peripheral vision are blurry...

and thats how it is in real life... rofl it would make you suck, but it would make the game more realistic, and thats the whole point...
