So why do they call a motherboard a motherboard and not a fatherboard?

it is called a mainboard, not motherboard. The motherboard does not make daughter cards.

The main circuit board of a personal computer is commonly known as the motherboard. All other "expansion cards" used in PC's plug directly into this board, both to draw power from the computer's power supply and to exchange information with the rest of the system. Because they plug into this main circuit board, in electronics lingo, expansion cards are also known as "daughterboards," while the main board is called the "motherboard."

The big circuit board thingy with all the slots on it that's in your computer. I suppose it's called a motherboard (female gender) because inserting and removing PCI cards, processors, and disk drive cables into its connectors gives geeks pleasure. ;)

Does that mean the PS is the father because the mother sucks all the life out that thing? :p

haha i was just kidding but okay, thank you. i built my computer (i always wondered what that big thing was that I kept plugging stuff into). As for that ship thing, ship's are a lot of people's pride and joy, and a guy wouldn't want his pride and joy to be another guy :) Same as for cars. I don't know how computers apply to this but you get the picture

Haha. I used to notice that they were called more frequently "motherboards," but now they seem to be called "mainboards" exclusively. My mom got pissed at me one time when I was complaining about how the motherboard in my computer was giving me all sorts of problems. Yeah, whatever; I just refer to it mostly as a mainboard now. She also doesn't understand how "SCSI" (pronounced: scuzzy) hard disks can be any good. ;)

Of course. The CPU (fatherboard) does all the thinking in the family.

You stick the fatherboard's "pins" into the motherboard's holes. :D

Motherboards are called motherboards because the plugs in an MB are female. I kid you not.

ummm... no... the slot 1s were CPUs on a daughtercard... the G4s are that way too.
