and why do others swear not to buy a new one?

EDIT: i tend to agree that 2-3 year used car is the best value, since ur getting a car with so little miles and huge price cut

but warranty is important, and i like the idea of only me driving the car (not counting the people who drives it around the lots n stuff)

Because some people feel it's worth the cost. Others don't.

id rather buy a used car that currently 4 or 5 years older from the current new models, cuz the payments will be lower and insurance will be lower too.

its about money

some people like the best deal and can do car maintenance, so they get used cars

there really is no arguement , used cars are a better value

Depends on the car. My $30,000 brand new '05 Highlander has lower insurance premiums than my 6 year old volkswagen Passat station wagon worth about 1/5 the value.

I want a new car soo bad..

I'm on my 3rd used car (only 23) and there's been some stupid problem or problems with all of them. I want a new car under warranty where I can bitch at the dealer every time there's the slightest little thing...

Resale value drops approx:
30% the first minute uyou drive it off the dealer's lot.
25% next year
20% following year.

From viewpoint of your personal wealth-building, as an asset
cars are losers!

NEVER buy a brand new car.

while i can afford any new car (within reason) i prefer nice used cars.

i just can't justify the price diffrence between a new car and a 1-2yr old with 5-13k miles. the price diffrence is enough to continue buying used.

i think it's the best to buy a used car that is 2-4 years old. not newer/not older (unless it's a classic)

Some people always want to have a warranty to fall back on also.

Depends on the car. A taurus yes. A civic or camry, no.

Cuz they can't afford a new car. Same reason why some people buy a car 3rd and 4th hand ten years down the line.

EDIT: I prefer a new car because it comes with full warranty and I know that the car hasn't been abused.

Because I'm scared that half of the drivers on the road may have owned the used car that I'm going to purchase.
When you buy new you know what has been done to the vehicle, how it's been maintained and driven.
If you believe that everything is going to show up on a carfax or the dealer is going to tell you the truth about that used car you have another thing coming to you...

NEVER buy a brand new car.

a 3 yr old Acura TL 3.2 (decent resale value) goes for about $23k.

a brand new Accord pretty much loaded goes for about $26k.

i'd take the new accord over the 3 yr old acura TL any day and twice on sunday.

besides, a 3 yr old car means you will have to put on new tires, new rotors, new pads and various other maintenance items.

I buy only new cars.

First of all, I'm loaded.

Secondly, the new cars (for me) have been trouble free for years.

some of these newer car that are coming out, the car companies are making it more harder to fix the probleoms on your own car.

I buy new, because I keep automobiles a long time. My current is 8 years old. I know everything about it. Come time to replace it, hopefully in a few years, I will buy another new one.

actually that is wrong.

I know a few people who can afford new. but prefer to buy a year or two old car.

Not everyone thinks new car's are worth the money.

yeah i've heard about that, as if the shops aren't taking more money than needed... i went to a transmission shop, and they wanted 350$ just to inspect my transmission.
