so, in light of the bombings in Riyadh, and continued violence in Iraq, why is it that the peace loving [or those who just want to be done warring in general] dont rise up agains those that incite violence in their countries? why is it that those who long for an end to war just dont rise up and beat down those who are there to incite malcontent and violence in general?

seeing as how im pretty sure that the US Military didnt car bomb Riyadh, nor have they been the instigators of violence in places like Fallujah, im obviously referring to terrorists and similar extremeists groups as those who incite ill will and violence in these places. So, therefore, dont go trying to place the US Military at blame or fault.

Perhaps the populace at-large feel that their country isn't really going anywhere and therefore tactitly allow the insurgents to do what they will. Couple that with decades of living under an iron fist and the sudden power vaccuum as U.S. troops just want to be their friends rather than keeping the masses down with a constant undercurrent of threats and violence.

Oops, I thought you meant Iraq only.

How would they stop them?

Why do people allow carjackings and drug deals to happen in American suburbs?

Excellent Question

I have heard that citizens in this country do not have any legal responsibility to report a crime if they witnessed it - Such as you are walking home and see a man murdered.. you can just go home and forget it ever happened... Without thinking of the full implications - It would be nice if there was some law for this or something

Your friend can murder someone and you do not even have to tell anyone.. oh well..

I think it's because domestic terrorism is a relatively new phenomena for them, at least in SA. It's like us after the OK city bombing, we really didn't know how to react, especially since the last thing anyone would expect was a white corn fed American carrying out the attack. That's just what I think, if it continues I think there will be more of an outcry from the people. As for Iraq, they are still in the middle of a war, there isn't much anyone can do.

indifference...or simply not enough will. if 20% of the pop is ruthless, and the rest is indifferent or slightly disagrees but not enough to do something about it, the ruthless will rule.

i know what youre saying, but the Iraqis keep on bantering about how they just want peace and quiet and want the Americans to go home [according to what I hear in the media anyways] so, why not help to speed up the process? help to thwart the assholes that keep foreigners there longer! i dont know if they hold narcs in the same reguard as we do, but hell, this outta be an exception!

...narc on terrists. let someone in charge of occupying forces know where insurgents and other such trouble makers gather to discuss their dealings.

and dealmonkey, i see where youre coming from, and i understand your point [and can even agree with it] there must be a lack of desire to make their country a better place if theyre letting violence continue out of control like this.

Thats true, we never do plan to leave [so why do dems complain about no exit strategy when we've NEVER planned to leave a country!?] but hopefully once we can set them up and leave them relatively stable, we'll get out.

But it doesnt look as though we'll be staying too long. We havent built any permanent structures yet have we [such as a new military base]
