So why can't the Audigy 2 ZS make use of its 24-bit claim? Bad drivers?

I was reading the review and the comparison between this card in 16bit vs. 24bit mode against the Lynx. The creative card goes nowhere fast. The reviewer mentioned the problems might be solved with future driver releases since the actual DAC's should be performing much better than measured.

I just wondered if anyone has done an in-depth study of what is going on here?

Thank you.

I know a similar debate is going on about the integrated audio in Dell notebooks. Dell apparently with ever other driver release appears to really tick a lot of people off over sound quality (hissing vs. chopped off high frequency response) and apparently haven't found a happy medium yet... There are some hacked drivers which appear to be a well all around solution, something about tweaking hidden parameters and *poof* we got good quality and nice frequency response without hearing all sorts of interference.

Yes I did start this in the wrong forum probably, at the time I started writing thought it was more of a rant than a technical quesiton.
