So, who's still using Windows XP?

Now that all of the "OMG, WE CAN'T GET SECURITY PATCHES ANYMORE" news articles are gone, I wonder... Who's STILL using Windows XP against Microsoft's wishes?

I still am, because I have to support a bunch of old Point Of Sale software that will likely never be upgraded for a newer version of Windows. The people who use this software don't really care if it gets patched or not, since the POS systems are on their own separate network with no Internet access. Hell... they never bothered to install the security patches even when new ones were available.

Point of service where I work is all (brand new HA!) XP SP3 on Celerons from 2006. Your phone is faster. Everything else runs on Win 7 SP1 enterprise low TDP IVB i5's, 3470S's. It does appear that the 7 systems have never been updated beyond the base SP1 install, at least on the one I use. I checked, couldn't help myself. :awe:

I have XP at work, and it's kind of a drag. When I get the time, I want to see if I can get everything running in GNU/Linux.

We still have some XP here at work, but i've been trying to get rid of it ASAP. It sucks and seems so slow/inefficient now. recently upgraded my own system to 8.1 and I think it's quite good after getting used to it. I don't even really miss the start menu after making the tiles small on the start screen. That said, I won't mind when the new start comes back and I am not planning to deploy any 8.1 PCs out there for the average user until that happens.

Who uses Windows XP *willingly*? I get it if you have some app that never got updated (and honestly, shame on them for poor support), or your IT department at work continues to be a drag or for a game that won't run otherwise, but who actually wants to run a 12 year old OS when Windows 7 will do great if you fear the big bad Windows 8/8.1?

I have 4 systems here . . . laptop w/Win7; Desktops w/Win 8.1 and 7, and . . . this ol' dog running XP Pro/SP3. It continues to get MSSE updates daily, and chugs along closely monitored by MBAM Premium 2. It is still the primary workhorse. No problems noted.

I am. XP PRO with SP3 and all updates on an old Dell Dimension 8200 with a P4 in it. It can not do Windows 7 and at this point I am not replacing it, as it and my applications run fine on it.

I have an XP VM for testing purposes which I've forgotten to put onto my new setup since I did a clean install with a new SSD.

I'd imagine that most people still using XP aren't using it willingly. Instead, they are plodding along while they wait for their bosses/IT managers/spouses/parents to pony up for either new software that is Windows 7/8 compatible and/or new hardware that can run a newer OS.

Who uses Windows XP *willingly*? ... but who actually wants to run a 12 year old OS

1) It works
2) It works just as well as it did after SP3 was released

<throws mouse out the window because I woke up this morning and hated *everything* that isn't brand new>

Of course the Windows Update expiry thing is a significant security issue for those needing Internet access, but look how you worded the question.

Old people. Such as my dad and he long rambly argument on why Microsoft should support their operating systems indefinitely because 'they did everything he needed them to do'.

I use XP for playing games and use some audiosoftware that works great on xp and not on w7 . When playing BF1942 online xp always sets me in pole start position with maps loading ,and the game is a little smoother on xp .Don t forget the art of zooking is sensitive ():)

But these are out of date , it is not a big deal everything works oke .
And i do not own xp , only got the licenence to use it , so MS can basicly say whe give 30 days and xp stops working .
