So, who's going to pick a Galaxy Tab WiFi next week?

So for 50 bucks more you an get the ASUS transformer? Seems to be a better idea to me...

Seems like a cool device. I love my Nook Color size, but a better GPU (like the Tab has) would be nice. The tab's super high native DPI bugs me though. What is the point of a high resolution screen if it doesn't make text small enough to make old people cry in agony? Whole point is to be able to fit webpages designed for desktop screens without reformatting.

I wonder if a Galaxy Tab is preferable to a Nook Color.... The Tab has video camera and microphone (therefore Skype would be possible), and - as poofyhairguy notes - a better GPU (there are reports on XDA that the GT can play scene 720p mkv, without the need to reencode)... Would this justify the $100 difference? Hmmm... decisions, decisions...

I could be mistaken, but don't the Nook Color and Tab both have 1024x600 resolution, 7in displays?

The Tab, like all Galaxy S models, plays pretty much every video codec out of the box. Definitely a better media device than the Nook if you haven't already bought a Nook.

The XOOM isn't broken, but even with all the trimmins its not worth 600 bones. I think the Tab is also not a great deal at 350. Somebody here picked one up for 200 and I believe thats an awesome price.

Yes. But the Nook Color's default DPI is 169.9999 while the Galaxy Tab's is 240. This can be changed using a few programs (and it is speculated that in reality the Galaxy tab has the same screen with a default 169 DPI and they just bump it in software) but then you maybe break the theme and etc. etc. Its not a big deal, but I never want to go to a lower destiny DPI device until mortality steals my vision.

But the Galaxy Tab's GPU is a least twice as powerful as a Nook Color, and its DSP seems to be even better than that. For HD media and heavy gaming the Tab is the obvious choice.

Can this be found cheaper anywhere? Like factory refurbished, but no mandatory carrier contract?

I imagine there might be some price cuts on the WiFi only version after there's more devices on the market for competition. Not sure if you want to check eBay for used or refurbed versions. I'd prefer new myself, but thats personal preference.
