I'll wait two days, check at Ars and see if there are any big problems. Then I will give it a shot.

MS never posted a release date for the SP. The 17th was a date circulated by websites and never confirmed by MS. The 17th was actually when the SP was scheduled to be RTM, not posted on the web. Could be another week or so, who knows.

Whomever installs it should probably wait for the Hot Fix patches. :p

That's the fix for the new bug that it will create.

I've installed SP1 and immediately removed it.

[1] SP1 breaks ZoneAlarm - which also prevents you from using IE to access the internet. You have to remove every trace of ZoneAlarm in the registry/hard drive and re-install to get it working again.
[2] SP1 also breaks Netzero. Dialing in works fine, but connecting to Netzero does not. I suspect sp1 breaks any dial-up connection setting.
[3] Win2k takes twice as long to boot up with SP1 installed.
[4] Random lockups lasting anywhere from 5-10 seconds, at least 5 minutes apart. Memory leak issue? Dunno.

I suspect one or all of the above reasons are part of why it's being delayed.

That's what happens when you used beta stuff ;)

I use Netzero and the SP1 beta, and I've had no problems. In fact, I noticed no diff between pre- and post- SP. Win2k runs great for me either way.

I definately will. I've been given the taks of rolling out W2K company wide. So far I have it running on my system and one server. I discovered that our #1 app (an accounting program) crashes BIG TIME under W2K. I'm really hoping that SP1 fixes it. If not... OMG do I have troubles ahead...

I don't like sp1. It makes your win2k installation 120MB more bloated.

Isn't SP1 the only way to solve the Outlook Express security bug that recently surfaced?
