Type something, then hit ctrl-backspace... I learned about this 4 years ago... it's so revolutionary.

(might be for windows apps only)

I knew about it, but, never used it, most often I do not need to delete a whole word and if I have to delete a bunch of them just holding down backspace or using the mouse gives me more control. With ctrl-backspace I could go to far....

Anyway, it's been so long since I decided that that I forgot about that option.

I don't have time to reach for the ctrl key. My typing is so sporadic and wild that I'm hammering the backspace key every other word anyway.

oh and 'home row' SUCKS!!!11! :p

i use it constantly, but the only problem is when some apps don't recognize it (like notepad) and it gives me a [] instead of a backspace

I use ctrl+shift+arrow key + delete.
It allows you to highlight a whole word, then delete. Or you can highlight half a towrd, or multiple words.

wow... sometimes I think re-typing the entire word is faster than finding your mistake and continuing from there. Depends on typing speed and/or patience I guess.

Ah, I'm using Linux. Control + Backspace in Linux deletes the whole line, I said I do shift+home+delete instead. What does control + backspace do in Windows.

Ah, I see it just deletes the last word :)

Ctrl + lots of things make it go to the start of the next word. Ctrl + Arrows make scrolling faster, backspace and delete both kill whole words at once...

It does some weird stuff in visual studio. But the weird stuff kind of makes sense. Sort of.

ctl + Esc will give you the start menu. That's great for me because I have a Thinkpad that doesn't have a Windows key.

I had the same problem and used a key re-mapper to set Caps Lock to the Win key. :D

On topic... I know about Ctrl+backspace but I use the "select with Ctrl/Shift + arrows then delete" method. BTW, I get the square characters too when I try Ctrl + Backspace now. WTF?!?
