So who uses high price (expensive) razor blades?

I used them when I was younger but got a cheap throw away one and could not really tell. Now I use a Panasonic electric razor and have had it for years. So I got out when the 3 blade was king and "worth every penny" and "shave closer" and "last longer" etc...

I like this part of this news story…

New razors have been fodder for parody for more than a quarter century. In 1975, the inaugural episode of "Saturday Night Live" included a mock commercial for a three-blade razor with the slogan, "Because you'll believe anything."
The introduction of Gillette's Fusion razor, kept secret until its debut in 2005, was eerily predicted the year before by the satirical Onion newspaper, which ran a fake memo from a shaving executive bragging about besting a competitor's four-blade razor by making one with five.

When SNL and Onion “predict” the joke that comes from the razor business and people still buy it up you know it’s a joke and you are the punch line for buying them.

I buy the gillette fusion, they cost like 13$ for four or five blades. They last me around three months *shrug*. People must be using a different blade every other week it sounds like.

I got the 5 blade one, it was on sale for like $3 somewhere and I didn't feel like dropping $14 on new blades for my Mach 3. It was so worth it, I shave with soap, my face is far from sensitive, but I definitely noticed a big difference, the Fusion was way more comfortable.

I have the Fusion as well and it makes a difference, it feels more comfortable on the skin and cuts really well.

I've used a fusion before (freebie) and while I liked it, I didn't like it enough to warrant the extra cost of blades. I still stick with the Mach 3. I had incredibly thick, dark hair so a good blade is important.

I used to have a fusion. Now I have gone back to the old "safety razor" style. The blade cost is so cheap I can use a new one everytime if I want.

My straight razor cost over $200, does that count? I bought it over 5 years ago and still going strong. Considering I stopped purchasing overpriced gilette cartridges, I'd say it has paid for itself.

Whenever I see the free razor "sample" ads on the internet or AT Free Stuff, I usually jump on them. I was able to get 2 or 3 Fusions, 2 or 3 Mach 3s, and 1 Quattro that way. I also use the blades for months before replacing them, and that seems to work fine.

I got a fusion for free once, then continued buying the replacement blades. They are expensive but they are definitely more comfortable than the el-cheapo's I was using before. They also last forever as long as you dry them off after use.

Haven't used razor blades in years. I have a beard and only use a trimmer.
But I used to use Gillette back in the day.

So what kind of hair do you have now?

I switched to DE back in March as a trial. So far I like it but to get the shave I want I spend about double the time shaving as I did with the Gillette Fusion.

I've been using Merkur blades and Feather blades.

Yeah, the new fusion blade was on sale at CVS 3 weeks ago for $3. I bought. It's literally the best shave ever......

I've used single-blade disposable razors in addition to the 2-blade (Sensor Excel), 3-blade (Mach3) and 5-blade (Fusion) razors from Gilette. It took me forever to upgrade from my Sensor Excel to a Mach3, and another span of forever to go from the Mach3 to the Fusion, as I tried not to buy into the hype that more blades = better.

However, the Fusion definitely offers a substantially better shave than its predecessors, while doing my face significantly less damage. Might have something to do with me needing to shave everyday, though; those with finer or slower-growing facial hair may not notice as much of a difference.

I get about 3 weeks out of each blade in a 5 pack so that's a little over 3 months. That's comes to a grand total of $500 every 10 years. I think this is probably that last place I'd look to cut back costs.

i've been using DE razors for over a year... will never go back to those ripoff razors again.

I just bought a $20 can of shaving cream - The Art of Shaving in Sandalwood... dear lord this smells sooo good.

I've used it for a week now - I only need an amount the size of a quarter(or less) to coat my entire neck/lower face.

www.shavemyface.com yes, there is a forum for shaving.

the blades on the fusion are too close together, so my hair gets stuck in it. not to mention too expensive for me. i go through blades quick. i switched from a mach 3 to a DE.

For the price of blades, you might as well get the barber to do it. I use an electric. You might not get the baby's bottom effect but the blades last a year if cared for. Wouldn't use a manual razor again. Too much mess, too time consuming.

I agree electric will not beat a good new razor but I have used the same electric for over a year that cuts just as well now as it did new and I don't have any cuts, creams, extra time, etc... Let alone all the money some people pay for these "super razors".
