The way see it, I get a console and a Blu-ray player for $355+ tax (after GC, coupon). Or I could spend $349 on an Xbox 360 Premium then another $250+ on a Blu-ray player.
That being said, after seeing movies in full HD glory on my HD DVD player, I have a hard time going back to standard def movies.

i don't want a console, so either way is moot.

Sorry but I don't see Sony licensing their BD player for a rival console. I mean thats the PS3s only real selling point. The 360 blows the PS3 out of the water in content and quality games.
The PS3 blows the 360 out of the water in quality of hardware.
In all honesty, the PS3 has a decent lineup of games, and the future looks fantastic as far as games come. Sure, the 360 still trumps the PS3 in the games area (depending on what you want to play), but "blowing it out of the water" is a huge overstatement currently.
Anyways, I'm glad Blu-Ray "won"...not because I want to back Sony, and not because I already own a PS3. It just offered more than HD-DVD. More support, more space, etc. The only thing HD-DVD had going for it was a lower price, but it will all even out over time (and the gap was closing already). Why support a technically (on paper) inferior product (aside from price and certain exclusive titles)?
Me too, look for the new firmware due out Monday. It will fix the low LFE problem!Originally posted by: Jumpem
I chose the Panasonic BD30 over the PS3.

I'd be more likely to buy a 360 + BD add-on if there ever if one.Just don't care about the PS3's lineup.

with the demise of HD-DVD, i'm now looking at getting a ps3.
i have some questions for fellow ps3 owners.
ps3 will be hard wired to my network via 1000Tx, so no wi-fi.
can a ps3 play divx files stored on a cd or dvd?
can a ps3 play divx/mp3 files stored on a usb flash drive?
using WMP11 as a uPNP client, can I stream divx/mp3 files from my basement desktop to my plasma upstairs through the PS3?
as you can tell, streaming divx is of primary importance to me.
also, what would be some of the forums to visit for streaming options for the ps3?
i realize most of the links will be blocked from work, but I could go home and surf a bit
Thanks

Heh I bought one the day the format war was officially over. I'm loving it so far, except for having to use the godawful controller to control the thing.
