I do. It's so hard to choose what to get when you go to a restaurant and you only have the dish names to help you. Then you see pictures for certain meals and you wonder why can't they all just have pictures. Life would be so much easier if everything had pictures.

that's part of the upscale restaurant experience... no pictures
you ask the waiter/waitress about the dishes and you narrow it down
life is about making decisions without knowing all the variables

its really not that hard. just ask the waiter/waitress. they might even give some good suggestions on what to try and what to avoid.

I usually ask the waiter/waitress for their suggestions. They obviously know the food pretty well by now. :p

I guess I should start doing that from now on. It never really occurred to me.

The waiter will usually offer their suggestions during their opening spiel. If it's a nice place, there's usually a "Chef's Special" which will 99% be excellent. Either way, don't be so indecisive, find a food you like and run with it.

Sometimes I'll ask for their advice and usually their suggestions are spot on.

I hate people who hate ordering food :p I've got this one coworker who won't order until everyone else has ordered so that he can take what everyone else is getting into consideration... I just want to shake him like an english nanny and tell him to pick something, damnit :| lol

I love ordering food based on the description and then being surprised by the wonderful plate that comes later on... It makes me happy.
I do not want a photo of it. it ruins the surprise of the presentation.

I hate when I can't hear what they are saying. Some places really need to fix their PA systems.

I get frustrated when the descriptions are lacking. Especially at Mexican and Chinese places. I tend to be picky and really want to know if a burrito is going to have beans in it or if Lao Tzus Chicken has broccoli and water chesnuts.

What really makes me nuts though is when waiters don't write the order down. I almost always make some modification (that's the American way) like "no mushrooms". I get pissed if it's wrong because they didn't write it down.

Experimenting is part of the fun.

Also, talking to the waitress is another part of the fun (Especially if she's hot and 19)

Then, eating is the final part...

Man I hate that. I want the meal that got everything I needed in one package with pretty picture. None of this al carte stuffs. Make me feel stupid and uneducate when I tried to place an order in those restaurants. Not to say I am not stupid or uneducated, but they didn't have to rub it in when I just want to eat something. :D

When I was working in a restaurant I would hate when people would ask me what they should get. How should I know what they like, it's not like the menu was in French or something.
