So who else is having shut down, restart, and other power managment issues with Vista RC2?

It seems like RC2 broke Vista's power management. I cannot shut down or restart, the screen just goes blank with no signal to the monitor. It did this even when installing. I had to manually hit the reset button everytime the install tried to restart in order for the install to finish.

At first it didn't really bother me much since I leave my computer on 24/7 but now I've discovered that the monitor will no longer go into sleep mode after 20min like it should. The screen goes blank but the backlight stays on. This is unacceptable because I walk away from my computer all the time and expect the monitor to just turn off by itself. Well I went to school today and forgot to turn it off and the backlight was on all day. :|

Has anyone found a workaround? I tried changing the computer type to ACPI PC but it didn't make a difference. Everything worked fine in build 5728 and before.

Well I was able to fix both problems. The shutdown issues had to do with the VIA SATA drivers. I had to replace Vista's drivers with ones from VIA.

I was also able to fix the problem with my monitor not turning off by uninstalling the ATI Catalyst drivers and using the default Vista drivers. I guess ATI's drivers aren't compatible with SP2.

I haven't had an issue with ATI's RC1 drivers in RC2, though in 5728 I did have some intermittent desktop flickering issues (which I solved by going back to the default ones). May have been because my 5728 was installed/upgraded over RC1, not a clean install.

Anyways, I'm just waiting for ATI to release some drivers that support OpenGL, then I can and likely will wipe my XP partition for good 😛

Not sure if it's related or not but the last time I booted my laptop w/ 5744 I ran into issues and had to restart. If I can pin something down I will bug it, you should do the same.

Goes without saying, if you can consistently replicate an issue w/ any beta software you should be bugging it.
