40C in the summer of -20C in the winter. Take your pick. :p

Having experienced both, I think I'll take 0F (~20C) any day over 105F+. At least with 0F, I can put on more clothes if I have to be outside. Ice and snow sucks, but it's better than sweating.

Of course, it all boils down to being sick of whatever extreme you're used to. Perhaps if I lived most of my life in the North, I might be hankering for hotter temperatures... who knows?

105 F of heat index around 4 p.m. today. Too freaking hot to do anything outside. I could not stand the heat so could not go to the minor league baseball game earlier today.

Oh yeah, forgot about the several months long drought too, so no lawn water and very soon, no car wash.

Will have to go out later tonight.

<<-----was perfectly fine in Feb, with below freezing temperature with almost 1 ft snow because just bundle and bundle up but in hot temperature, getting naked isn't help any <whhhaaaaaaa>

Thanks goodness for AC. Don't want to open my electricity bill for this month and the next 2-3 months.

When it's HOT, having an outdoor oven is the way to go...keep the heat outside instead of in the house where it can make the AC work harder...

I live ~2 hours north of Dallas-Ft Worth area, and we hit 113F yesterday.

"Only" supposed to get up to 108F today, though! :D

Personally, I'm looking forward to later in the week, when they're predicting that we'll cool down to ~100F. That will be NICE!!

I'm literally baking this morning too while it's still in the 60s outside so I can ventilate the kitchen with outside air(I have a massive baking stone for cooking anything bread related on, unfortunately it also holds heat FOREVERRRRR). I'm making artisan country style rolls, made the dough last night did a first rise then made the rolls and into the fridge for an overnight rise.

Apparently my family thinks they are so good I have to make them and bring them to every family get together.

Then making homemade banana pudding from scratch as well. Should be a damn fine feast today all for my dad :)

I'm contemplating building a brick oven of sorts outside, that way I don't have to bake inside during the summer. Right now, I'm using my propane grill with terra cotta as a substitute at times. Makes a pretty good bread actually.

Yeah my baking stone is just a massive slab of terra cotta. I have been considering doing a terra cotta and/or a brick oven that Alton Brown has used in the past for baking outside. Only stumbling block is how I'd construct it.

My thoughts so far would be to build a lower brick firebox and at the top place a heavy duty cast iron grill grate then buy a terra cotta pot both the top and bottom. Then put the terra cotta on the cast iron grill get a fire started down below and well that's an outside oven.

At least that's my theory and once I switch jobs in July and have more money I'll probably draw up some blueprints and do the proper research and build it.

Pardon the crappy cell phone pic but here are the rolls I made this morning, same dough recipe I use for my everyday bread:

It's been pretty unbearable over here in Louisiana for the past few weeks as well, although not quite THAT unbearable. Not sure how y'all do in terms of humidity in DFW, but I know Houston gets it almost as bad as us.

Freakin' swamp state.

fortunately the extent of today's "baking" consisted of bringing 1/2 cup of heavy cream to a simmer, which took about 15 seconds in a stainless steel pot.

now I've just got to wait for the gelatin to set and we can cut into my chocolate mousse cake :)

Should've left this post in the "What the hell just came out of my sinuses?" thread. :awe:

That makes sense. I guess it would be in the garage? Anyhow, I'm reminded of the time My father, grandmother, sister and I went out west (Wyoming, Dakotas, Colorado area) during the summer around 1984 or so.

My father rented an RV........with no AC.....sigh. And my grandmother, God bless her, would crank on that little oven in there EVERY day and make HOT foods like mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and the like. Gah......it was a stifling 2 weeks.
