because the people i work for got picked up to work a huge, long term, fast paced IT project for a health system, and the people in the health system dont communicate worth a damn

then my company, after working for the health system for 3 months (with me and person A as the main techs/contacts), involves someone from my company as a "project manager" who has had ZERO involvement in working with this health system

and this "project manager" from my company has sent me ZERO fucking emails about what he would like from me

he also has fucked up the schedule, and failed to contact key individuals at the health system, because he did not get an accurate report of what has happened to date and where we need to streamline things.

then person A, who has worked with me regularly on this project, says he wants to help run the project, since it has been he and I as the points of contacts to start with

so we have a meeting with the health system to address streamlining some things, things that our project manager did not cover, and things that the health system PM did not cover, and we agree to do things better

then person A starts getting emails from our PM, but he fails to forward any information to me in a timely manner, then wants me to help him schedule the next phase, then tells me i have the wrong information, BECAUSE HE DIDNT FUCKING GIVE IT TO ME WHEN HE GOT IT

this is a project with multiple (say, 7) similar phases.

do a, finish a start b, finish b start c, finish c start d, go live. support the live phase while we go back to a.

after the first phase the process should get quite a bit better the second time around...it really may not. i will find out friday.

even better: multiple people that i do not know from the health system, along with the health system project manager, call me left and right wanting things resolved or answers to questions

but when i contact people at the health system? it may take all day to get the answer to something i already fixed, only to find out that when i told someone i fixed it they told nobody else...or to find out that they didnt want me to do it that way this time, can i please go change things they knew were fucked up weeks ago that they didnt give me a solution for

things that instead of being in a room with me when i set them up...are over an hour away from me, in different directions.

fuckers.

and to top it off, i missed the venus transition working on printers for this project yesterday. i fucking hate printers.

/boozy rant end

You are forgetting your formulae for lines of communication.

Shit, I wouldn't want to reply to your e-mails too if this is an example of how they were written and formatted, sans the cursing of course.

I hate big corporate projects when there's a lack of communication.

Things would go so much smoother if people communicated, and if there was proper channels to communicate to begin with. I don't know why companies don't have internal forums. You could have a thread on a project, or a really big project could have it's own forum even, only give access to those part of the project. Boom, all the info is there from vendor contacts to ongoing stuff. Would not even need to have as many meetings since everybody would be keeping everyone up to date through the forum.

And yes, I hate printers too. It's 2012, why are we still printing stuff so much? Governments and other parties that require paper copies, faxes etc need to get with the times.

Remember Google Wave? Yep, miserable failure.

All I can think is that this is exactly how you should expect it to be. Perhaps after this you'll know how to head off the inevitable problems.

its not, my business communication is concise and to the point and generally done when i am sober.

"ray, here is the wireless fix you wanted. I know this has been used in other cases before for some clinics, is this still an acceptable solution? If so, I have other laptops at clinics A and B I would like to use it in, please let me know"

rays response?

THERE WASNT ONE.

thanks, ray.

I think a sharepoint site is the answer.

it would actually be nice, at least for some things....we dont have regular access to their central process folder, and only certain people are getting updated documents.

the health system IT department is something like 200+ people, sharepoint would be great, but it would easily take a couple of years for them to migrate their folder structure over and manage permissions and get things going. they will never do that.

For my company we have sharepoint for document sharing, but...its crap. well, not crap, just not convenient.

Since we have all been moving around so much we are using a shared skydrive folder (having phone, tablet and laptop syncinc is great) to keep up with documents, but some of the guys arent even using it, or completely ignored my notes on where certain documents are and began to make their own.

Person A from my company, for example, who wanted help with that schedule? Well...his ass didnt upload a new copy of the health system schedule for me to look at, so I gave him feedback based on the one I already had. *sigh*

I see the same thing where I work. Nothing goes smoothly with big corporations, but so much of it is just an issue of people not getting along so not relaying important info. It's disgusting how childish some people act, and how ignorant they are to how screwed they make other people by not communicating.
