So, while selecting classes for next semester I realize I took the WRONG CLASS

So this semester I am in Math 104 (college algebra). I knew I needed to take 171 (calc I). I now noticed that the prerequisites say 108 or 104 and 106. This means that I now need to take either 106 or 108 (pre-calc) to get into 171. Son of a bitch.

Edit: Note, I only have two semesters left of college. That means I will *have* to pass both or I am screwed.

Talk to your advisor - you might be able to get special permission to disregard the prerequesite.

I thought you took the wrong class? The way it sounds its more like you just took on of two classes that you need to get into the higher math.

Yeah, I am meeting with him tomorrow (hence why I was getting things together today). Unfortunately, I *really* need to take pre-calculus as I kinda suck at math.

The only math class I need to graduate is 171. It has preeqs.

104 and 106 or 108. Now, I am currently in 104. I should have just taken 108 this semester so I would only need to take 108 and 171 to graduate.

I started Calculus in high school. You're just lazy.

Seriously, why is it that people wait until college to take Algebra? In the public schools system I graduated from, you needed to take at least 3 math courses to graduate, and that meant you had to take up to Alg. 2.

Of course, I had 6 math credits, but one of those was just Comp. Sci. 1.

I wish I only had to take Calc. I need all the way to statistics and Probability, and I'm horrible at math :(

I did not "wait" really.

HS: took college algebra my junior and senior year (neither was AP so did not count).
College #1:
Got there and did bad on the entrance testing, required me to take a remedial class.
Semester 1: Horrible prof, dropped
Semester 2: ok prof, somehow bombed the final (honestly, I have no idea what happened. The only way I could have failed is if I scored below about a 50%. The tests were unavailable for viewing).
Semester 3: Took it and passed with a B
Moved, college #2
Semester 4: Unable to get into a college level class
Semester 5: Unable to get into a college level class (schedule conflict)
Semesters 6 & 7: These are the only two semesters you could say that I did not make a huge effort to get in.
Semester 8: Current

Environmental Studies with a minor in Geography (with more than enough credits in Geography to get a major in it, but not the right classes).

You're just rude.

Some people prefer to take lower-level math in college because the adjustment between being taught math in high school and having to teach yourself math in college is hard enough.

Calc was not offered at my high school. (Pre-clac was, though.)

I always had A's in HS math, aced the math entrance exam for college and scored in the 30's on the math portion of the ACT, but I dropped calc once and got a "passing but not good enough for program" D in college because I couldn't easily adjust to the concept of learning things on my own. Third time was a charm though. I got my friend to tutor me and ended up with a B.

Wait, you have two semesters left in college, and you haven't even taken precalc yet?

Man dude, both college algebra and precalc are remedial 'catch-up' classes here.

depends.. i'm assuming that 108 = 104+106. so if you REALLY suck at math, then 104+106 is the way to go.

of course, by the way yopu described it... you pwned yourself by not doing things clearly.

drop the class and switch to 108 now?!
