you want the metal mesh pointed on the output side of the filter (true for most filter aplications) in case the filter somehow falls appart the metal mesh will keep the pieces from destroying your fan.

i think so, since once side has the plastic frame reinforceing the mesh, and sticking quite a bit out, and the otherside is just mesh. so which way it goes in might have an effect on how well it seals with the inner bits of the bezel.. i dunno,...problem is it slides in both ways

Not to hijack the thread but... Can you buy 120 mm mesh filters seperatly? I want to put one on my intake 120mm on my Antec superlanboy case... thx

Stores like Frozencpu have them for like 6$. I went to homedepot and for 97 cents I got a huge rectangle of air conditioner dust filter that looks similar. Huge = 15"x10"x1/4"

Thanks, I may have to try that. My issue is figureing out how to hook a filter in while keeping the current grill in place... fun times ahead...

yea u can... where does the front one mount anyways? behind the bezel? i never bothered lookin😛 if the back of the fan is accessable u can buy clip on or screw on filters.. cost like 5 bux for plastic mesh. if its between bezel and that hd cage ...reaching it for maintenance might be a b*tch.

for my other cases with more easily accessable fans i use the cheap washable cut to shape 1/2" furnace filters from hardware stores. they catch a lot of dust. made of lose blue hair like random mesh😛 just a square of it and rubber band or mask tape around the edges to the back of a fan and it'll catch more dust then anything else u can buy. course not an option in sonata.
