Also found this on the Symantec site:

>Does Ghost 2003 still require keying in the license number prior to
>restoring an image?

In Ghost 2003 you will encounter a couple of pop up messages
reminding you that this is a single user license, and that this is a
consumer product that is meant for one or two computers. Then, you
will not hear from us again on licensing.
---------------

So it does seem that they've succumbed to common sense and fixed the two biggest bugbears about Ghost 2002.

I think I'll get 2003 :)

You've never mentioned that you were talking abt NTFS. FAT is the still the standard in most drives today. and yes I'm still using the "OLD" FAT system. and Yes, I do know that Ghost cannot do the NTFS thingy

Huh? If you infact did know that Ghost cannot do the NTFS "thingy" then you definitely should have known that I was referring to the problem with NTFS in my initial post. Don't contradict yourself.

Acronis True Image 6.0 is the better then both, it can create an image in windows so you can still use the computer while it's working. Also you can assign a drive letter to the image and explore it like it is a partition, so if you need a file you can just copy it.

Acronis True Image 6.0

Here's a quote from the True Image FAQ:

"(Any partition except the system partition can be restored without reboot.)"

Of course there's no way you can image your active OS partition while it's running. You will have to do this from outside Windows (i.e. DOS or whatever). Gotta read the fine print. I don't know about you guys but the only drives I have ever imaged are my boot drives.

The new Drive Image 2002 will also make images of non-OS partitions while in Windows.

But does this mean that it can't be cloned while running, the way I read it, it means that when restoring the image you must restart the system not necessarily when making an image. Of course I may be wrong.

The FAQ is wrong it will image the system partition even while your using, so if you have windows on the C drive an your in it at the time you can image it but if you want to restore the C drive you will have to reboot of course.

Another cool thing is you can assign a drive letter to the stored image and explore it just like any partition so if C crashed and you need an old file you can just mount the image and copy the old file from it.

I bought Ghost a little while back (a few months) and never could get it to work right. There is basically no interface whatsoever, the only menu option you have is to create a boot disk (which I did), and couldn't get the PC to boot of the disk. Plus, I couldn't save to a firewire drive or network share (the only 2 things I wanted to do) so it's useless to me. Anyone want to buy a copy? :)

True Image is doing a special deal for Ghost users where you can buy True Image for $9.99 if you have a copy of Ghost. Check out this page:

I preferred Ghost until Drive Image 2002 came out, but now would vote for the latter.
