BIOS is set for 1.475.

CPU-Z reads 1.440

nvMonitor shows "CPU" 1.45 and "Core" 1.53

I'm starting to hit my overclock limit and so it now is kinda important for me to know what my Vcore really is. Currently running my Opty 165 @ 2.610 GHz with load temps around 38C with an XP-90. I know there is an upper limit on safe volts for the Opterons regardless of temps...true?

OCZ 2x1024 Platinum EL (running at stock)
 
Not if the real one is the 1.53V reading from nvMonitor. Then I have no more room to increase.

And...is that even true? Do I need to stop increasing volts even if my temps are staying low?
 
Hmm...just changed the voltage in the bios to 1.45. Now CPU-Z reading dropped to 1.408 and the nvMonitor readings are unchaged from what they were before.

BTW - what is stock Vcore on these opteron? Because my DFI defaulted to 1.45V for this proc (but I thought that it was supposed to be 1.35V)
 
The default ranges from 1.35 to 1.40, so 1.45 is high.

On measuring...honestly the only voltage I trust is the number my voltmeter reads. If you really want to be sure, that's the only way...other than that tho, I'd trust the bios over all else.
 
CPU-z is usually the most accurate. BIOS is meaningless; it's only good for a "ballpark figure" . NVMonitor is all over the map so don't trust that.

I'd go by CPU-z. You can also download MBM5 for your motherboard. I've got the DFI NF4 Lanparty Ultra-D too - do a google search for DFI lanparty MBM5 profile (it sets everything up for you already 🙂 ).

Asus A8V? What is that, a VIA chipset? That's probably the problem right there.

Are you using the latest version of CPU-Z, with the latest motheboard drivers?

I've had nothing but success with CPU-Z on Nforce and Intel chipsets.
