So, which are the best kits to hoard now ?

None.

In a year, the prices are expected to be 1/4 of today's prices, so now would be the wrong time to hoard.

Prices will always fall and if you use that to wait, you will never jump. Most will never use 4Gb much less anything more.

Prices will always fall

The DDR2 experience proves this is not true.
So far, a given generation of memory chips has had its ups and downs over its lifetime. They typically attain "record low" prices just before the next generation of memory is introduced. At that point, their prices begin rising and stay relatively high for a year or so when they become obsolescent and their prices begin to drop again (as used, last-generation or two-generations-old memory).

I've doubled my money on memory that I purchased when at record lows, used it for a year or so, and sold it a year or so later when production had ended and prices had risen.

Doing that can help ease the pain of having bought other memory earlier in its life cycle at "ridiculously-high" prices. Right now, I'm using a ton of brand-name DDR2 that I purchased at $5/Gigabyte. I expect to make at least a few dollars when I sell those a year from now when I move to DDR3.
