if you are looking for wireless, I suggest you wait 6 mos. if you can.
The faster hardware is being produced and will not be marketed until the current slower products are low in inventory.

Or can get a better deal on the slower stuff.

I agree that Price Watch Is one of the best places to go.
Just remember that the first item on the list usually isn't the one you want, I would go for the third or fourth usually.

Check out Krex (www.krex.com) they're usually in-stock, and pretty responsive to the customers. I live near 'em so I don't buy much online, but I do purchase alot of stuff over-the-counter.

Depends...

Wireless stuff I usually just watch the hot deals forum and score something from there, which is usually from a major retailer like OM, CompUSA, OD, BB, CC, Staples, etc.

PCI or PCMCIA 10/100 wired nic I usually just watch the local ads for one for about $5.00, at $5.00 I figure I can get a couple and worry about how they run later. And they usually run fine for a long time.

Complex stuff, or harder to find items, pricewatch.com

Mostly B&M stores. Bestbuy often has pretty good network prices, but they require a bunch of rebates. Actually, I buy most of my network stuff from best buy.. Oh yea, well dell has a sale it's pretty good as well.

I'm not really interested in wireless right now. What I'm looking for is 1000' spool/boxed CAT-5e, RJ-45 connectors, 16+ port switches, Cisco router additions (boot ROM, RAM, AUI adapters), crimp tools (the ratcheting kind), low-cost fluke type cable testers, inexpensive racks, etc.

It always seems I need to hit 5 or 6 different online retailers to get what I need, but end up getting some of it local and paying through the nose for it because nobody had the part in stock (or some other reason).

And if anyone says ebay, so help me god:|

If you live in a bigger city you can check out dot-bomb auctions. YOu can sometimes pick up some nice stuff for a reasonable price...

I work for a company that has corporate accounts with CDW, Insight, Zone and Global and they usually will beat pricewatch prices. As for cabling, patch panels, jacks and the such, there is only one place for that... :) Graybar!!

I'd agree 100% if it wasn't for the fact that I'm in the UK.

Nutz, try the various catalogues. For home use I use global direct or action. For work stuff, well I work for a networking reseller so it's not an issue. For cisco memory, flash etc try crucial or Kingston. I'm in the UK as well.
