Limewire for single songs. BitTorrent for albums. Btw, this is for free songs, only...
Gnucleus PWNS Limewire. I'll admit I haven't used Limewire in a while, but I can say I've used several versions of it, and it was very buggy under both Mac OS9 and various versions of Windows. It's very bloated. Gnucleus, to some extent, blocks certain "malicious" hosts and is quite a bit lighter. Run both and see for yourself how much more RAM and CPU time Limewire eats when nothing is really going on.
(I haven't used either in about a year now because weird music sounds better to me anyway. Pop music sucks, and that's all I've been able to find on there anyway. I recently downloaded some good music off of various bands' websites, and I'm finding that small bands would rather get their word out rather than be stingy about a few free songs.)
