So where are the Soundstorm sound cards?

I heard rumor that a discrete Nvidia Soundstorm sound card was going to be released. That was a few months ago, and still no cards, or even any official news of it happening.

Was it scrapped or what?

I don't recall any Official word about the issues. There was lots of rumours, wishes, and other talk about it though.

That's what I mean. There's been no word since the rumors started surfacing back in October '03, I think. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong here, but the rumors were started by Nvidia themselves. When questioned what their plans were with the technology after planning not to integrate it into the Nforce3 chipset, they said they would make it available as an "add-on chip." I would think that means a separate sound card would be available. But there's been nothing about it on their site, or officially anywhere else.

Now that you mention it, hmm, where the hell are they? ;) :D

wait...Nvidia announcing a product, hyping it to the public about the features and such. 6 months down the road there is no final silicon or press release ever mentioned?

Sounds like typical Nvidia BS. :p;)

add-on chip probably didn't mean stand alone card. Sounds more like a zero channel RAID card, where the card requires a supporting motherboard to work.

Makes sense, I could also see the possibility of a dedicated soundchip for motherboard integration.

I hope Pariah's theory is wrong -- a standalone card where Nvidia can dictate better standards for DACs is just what the APU (and the consumer) needs. It would compete very well with Creative's Audigy series and Creative couldn't just buy out their biggest competitor like they're used to doing.
