I can see why it would be tough to leave your home, because with 50-75% of the population gone, burglars and looters would have a damn good chance of robbing you blind. Nevermind the fact that it makes no sense to hoard any of that stuff with a category 5 hurricane bearing down on you, but you get my drift.

Anyone else think its only a matter of time?

Or maybe a massive surge of Mexicans running back to Mexico to dodge this storm. ;)

I think people in Texas are more likely to shoot looters first and not ask questions ever.

Yeah, I don't think Texans will put up with the looting like LA did.

I'm taking my stuff with me. I feel sorry for any looters though... People do stuff they can get away with, and here, they can shoot their arse without much of a problem if they are on their property.

There will likely not be much looting because us Texans have and will use guns. I don't think there will be much looting for other reasons also and in no way will there be wholesale chaos like in Lousiana. The severe danger areas are being evacuated by the authorities and there will not be anyone around to loot what little will be left of those areas anyway if the hurricane hits them head on and those who stay will likely end up as flotsum. I am epxecting to get hit with the hurricane but how bad is still yet to be seen. Even though my neighborhood is unlikely to be looted I am still going over to a friend's house in the morning to pick up 200 rounds in preloaded clips for my AR-15 just in case.....I already have ammo for the pistols. It is better to be safe than sorry. I will be completely ready to sit out the storm by tomorrow afternoon because I have been getting ready since yesterday morning at 8AM.

Nice :) Time to hunt the most dangerous game of all, Man! How many rounds in a clip? Got a scope for that thing?

People are armed in Texas. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the hurricane fell dead before it even makes landfall, the result of being riddled with gunfire.

I'm not going to hunt anything. I don't plan to use any of my guns unless I absolutely have to. They will be ready if needed but I am hoping my preparations are wasted time. I do not want to have to shoot ANYONE but I will. I simply choose not to be caught with my pants down. There are a lot of Yankees (they fear hurricanes because they have never been through one like me) and families with small children on my street so many are fleeing to safer places which will leave the area partially abandoned. I have collected everyone's house keys and I will be keeping an eye on things. I do not know what is going to happen but if we are without power for several days I refuse to be UNARMED.

I have 20 and 30 round clips but I do not know what my buddy is loading up. He called me earlier and told me to come by and pick up some ammo as he knows I am out so he was loading some clips for me also. He may even stay here for a few days as he has no generator at his apartment and I do here at the house.

No need for a scope on any of my rifles. I am quite confident with my two favorite "in a pinch" weapons to 300 yards without a scope. I have been collecting and shooting guns almost my entire life and a scope is a hindrance unless you are sniping....which I WILL NOT be doing. I am merely arming myself to protect my family from the unknown.

I can attest to that. My girlfiend is the Drug Manager at the Krogers one mile from the house and she says the shelves are simply empty. Almost nothing left except thing people don't consider necessary for this emergency. I was in there at noon on my way back from getting an air filter for my generator and there was no bread and other aisles were almost completely stripped.

Well... I'm trying not to be too serious about this whole hurricane thing. But we've had an increasing problem with drive-by thieves in my neighborhood in the past year or so. Just the other night I looked outside to see someone pull up to my neighbors' house, grab two potted trees, and throw them in the back of his truck.

I'm expecting an increase in this kind of chickenshit thieving, since these guys generally prey on houses where they don't see cars, and some of my neighbors have evacuated. Fortunately, we are armed, as are several of our neighbors, and we're all going to be on the lookout after the storm passes. I don't anticipate anyone having to shoot anyone, but it's better to be prepared and able to defend your family and your home.

But seriously, what kind of person steals potted plants??

Very nice.

My father used to know some guys that would leave with thier rifle (no scope), 50 rounds, a target set at 800+ yards and come back with one hole in the target.

That is marksmanship my friends.
