So when will we actually see these quad-core tablets for sale?

Its nice to see demo's and all but until the consumer can actually buy one it doesn't matter. Are there any ETA's on these new quad-core tablets? I suspect dual core will be around for awhile, especially if you can get a dual-core tablet running at like 2ghz or so...

More cores on a tablet is utterly useless. I even question the point of the dual core on my iPad since these devices aren't built to be running multiple things at once.

Amazon's tablet offerings is rumored to be available sometime in 4Q and should feature a Tegra 3. Biggest reason I'm looking forward to the Tegra 3 is high profile H264 support, not quad core.

Nothing's been announced beyond Nvidia saying they'd have Tegra 3 out by the end of 2011. I'd guess initial products are coming in November at the earliest.

nVidia has been saying August for first shipping tablets using Kal-El for quite some time. If they hit that or not I have no idea, but they seem to be holding to that. They are planning on shipping Kal-El phones by the end of the year.

Perhaps when Apple releases iOS 5 you will see things differently, multitasking on a tablet is very smooth when done properly, they just need a bit more power.

It isn't about running multiple things at once, it about running apps that can take advantage of multi threading. Take a look at the video in the link I provided and you will see the advantage.

Well it is about both as andriod will happily run many tasks at the same time (unlike ios).

Anyways the only down side of more cores is power consumption. Also; not sure if nvidia new architecture allows you to shutdown unused cores. The current dual core solution is a bit weak about down scaling a single core (for power saving when it is unused).

I have been getting more interested in tablets thanks to some of the arguments people here have made for them. I was considering the Asus transformer, or the upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1, but it may be worth waiting a few months for these quad core variants, depending on what the battery life is like.
