Probably never. The cores would be starved for memory bandwidth. Me best guess is that AMD went to dual channel to provide the proper bandwidth to dual cores. If they were going to stay single core they would still be churning out Socket 754 chips right now instead of basically killing it off slowly.

Agreed. I doubt there will ever be any... but who knows? Lightening could strike.

What would be the best chip now for a 754dfi board, for exreame oc? Cost not being a issue. Gaming would be important & from what I have read the semprons do not do that well in gaming compared to the other amd chips.

3200+ Clawhammer, could probably get it to 2.4/5 no problem, 3700s are pretty much capped out and cost a lot more.

The 2800+ to 3200+ newcastles do very well of late....

This is the reason (dual cores for sckt 754) I have not advised ppl to get a sckt 754 system of late when building a NEW AMD rig......I am going to keep my mobo for possibly 3 cpu upgrades...winchester - venice - dual core......

For ppl that have an already existing sckt 754 I would stay with it and just shift over after dual cores comes out...

What about Turion? Is AMD going to update the socket for a mobile dual core? Granted I'd think that would come along much later than desktop dual cores...

Turion is socket754 and I am waiting to see how well they OC.

there's a guy at extreme oc that just ordered one & it should arrive tomorrow,i hope he can OC it nicely but it looks like an expensive chip to me.

thread on Turion.

They're supposedly going to use Socket 939 for dual core Turion, or possibly one of the speculated future sockets (M2, etc.).
