I think i'll die before Pascal come out. I'm in need of a new computer. My current computer is breaking down and I can't run a single game on it. I also want to try either the Occulus Rift or HTC Vive for Virtual Reality so I have the money, but so far I need the hardware to reach my gaming dream.

I hope it come out soon cause I'm dying from stress and pain. I am not brand loyal so as long as I can have what I want that all I care about and oh right STAR CITIZEN!!!!

Could build a new pc, stick a cheap used card in as a placeholder, or maybe your current card if it's not the part that's failing.

Qualification silicon of Pascal GPUs is dated 3 weeks ago, so it is around 3 months before the GPUs will land on the market. Early july at best, for wide availability.

Will there be GDDR5X in necessary supply by then? The same pic showed GDDR5X on the PCB.

I think it's almost guaranteed that there will be both GDDR5X and GDDR5 versions. If GDDR5X isn't ready when the chips are ready, they are just going to launch with the lower-end models.

Yes it is, they'll release their flagship replacements, Fury X & 980Ti, with cards bearing GDDR5x & very likely higher clocks as well. The question is whether the price differential will be commensurate to the difference in performance, as compared to the regular version with GDDR5, & perhaps if we'll get to enjoy GDDR5x with something like a GTX 1070 &/or cut down Polaris 10 at a decent price :\

I imagine even if they do drop the GDDR5X chip right away in June, it will be supply/stock limited for a good while afterwards. Perhaps the majority of the summer

Are you building a brand new computer rig from scratch? Upgrading only CPU+mobo+RAM+GPU, or need a new GPU only?

Building a brand new PC from scratch. I love building computers so it very exciting for me. Also the old PC has lot of bad memories outside of gaming. new CPU, Mobo, Ram, GPU and other components as well.

If your CPU of choice has integrated graphics, then do the rest of the build and watch for deals on existing cards or when new cards might be available.

Buy the rest of the system, use integrated graphics until Pascal/Polaris drop and pick the better of the two for your needs

They do want to sell people these things as upgrades you know :) It would be pretty suicidal to release something that didn't work on a plausibly modern motherboard.

Even once these things do launch you'll maybe want to wait a few months for early supply stuff/really good cooler designs etc to shake out. So you could reasonably grab some cheap thing like a 750ti/950/360 or such like and plan to sit on it for 6-12 months.

Maybe depends on how much spare cash you've got.

That actually not a bad idea. Problem is will the new GPU work with any mobo?
Are you sure you know enough to effectively build your own system?

If not, you'll get a lot of good advice here.
