Man, my sister can be such a brat at times. She's 15, and never had a real job. She has no clue. First off, we are not a wealthy family. We have plenty of food thanks to my mom, but she's a single adult with three kids, so she just doesn't have money to spend all the time. Just 15 mins ago, my mom was leaving to buy some groceries, and my sister asked if she can have her allowance moeny to buy a cd. My mom said she didn't have it and they got in a big argument. My sis did earn her allowance, but when you don't have the money, you just don't have the money. My sister doesn't even understand the hard time our mom has trying to support us. She has no clue what the value of a dollar is. I so wish she would grow up. What an ungratful brat!!!! Ok i'm done ranting. So when did you learn the vulue of money?

At an early age. My dad was working hard to get his Masters and working nights to support my mom and 3 kids. It was rough for a while.

The older I get and the more money I have the less I appreciate the value of a dollar.

I still won't buy an eBook though.

College, the here and now. I found out that I'm a whole lot cheaper by nature than my parents are.

When I started working and realized that if I bought a meal at my lunch break I was blowing basically an hour's worth of work (minimum wage sucked back then).

i value a dollar a lot less than i did when i was little. when i was little i had an allowance of anywhere from 25 cents to 3 bucks a week. i now make 10 bucks an hour, working 20+ hours a week. needless to say, i have a much easier time spending money now than i did when i was little.

yea, it's weird, sometimes i'm stingier than my parents! then again, they make a lot more money than i do... i have millionaire relatives that still wear clothes they find at garage sales.

Ditto

<< have learned the value as the yen keeps dropping and i try and send money back to the states >>

That sucks. Nothin beats the value of greenbacks...rents always talk about how you always try and get dollars when in other countries.

at about 7 or 8 years old. when i was a kid my parents didn't give us an allowance. i helped my brother on his paper route and earned money that way. i always had some kind of job even as a kid: paper routes, mowing lawns, shoveling snow, whatever. i was always doing jobs around the neighborhood to earn money. as a kid, we lived upper-middle class but my parents always made us work for our spending money. i'm still not sure if this was a good thing or not but it probably was. it instilled independence but i'm not sure it instilled responsibility.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! My sister (13 (I think)) is the same way. She always has to have the latest clothes. I will wear clothes till they literally fall apart. She is taking lessons for 2 instruments (Piano, and that whatchmacallit that looks like a rocket). She is also taking lessons for something else that I can't spell (and they cost $75/MONTH!!!).

I can't believe they are paying for all this stuff. They don't have the money to waste. All I can do is constantly remind her that I pay for my ISP and computer upgrades. BTW, I learned the value of a dollar a long time ago. I remember trying to save $20 for a cheap metal detector and it seemed like forever. Now that I have a CC I seem to have forgotten the value of a dollar (or maybe just the value of patience).

its true though!!
its either that, or cheapness.... ;)

but even then, my uncle says I need to get a real job before I fully appreciate the value of money.

Started paying for everything I wanted at 14 because I knew my parents couldn't afford the things I wanted (electronics). I got a job (lied on application) and got a job as a handiman at a fabric store.
