Sometimes your ball gets stuck, and thats pretty much the only way you can get it out. At least thats what I use it for

From casual play every few months here and there killing time, 4 million. I think you can use the tilt to keep the ball from err, what do you call it when you're moved on to the next ball? I'm not too good at it, but I swear I've been able to keep it from falling down those side rails a couple of times by tilting. There must be someone who plays real pinball who can explain this to us.
