I just went from PC 100 SDRAM to CAS2 PC133 SDRAM (remained at 256MB) in preparation for my move from a Celeron Mendocino 500MHz & Asus P3B-F rev. 1.01 (not upgradable) to a Duron 800MHz & Microstar K7T Pro2A with a GlobalWin FOP32-1 HSF. I will also change my generic 235W PS for a 350W Enermax EG-351P-VE.

My rc5 crack rate should benefit substantially. :)

The most tempting upgrade appears to be KT133a with DIMM slots. If you look at Anand's article about the comparison between KT133a with SDR and DDR, there is a marginal difference at best. So for anyone who already invested in quality SDRAM, it looks great.

I am looking for a Dual SMP Duron system! I think that would kick some serious butt!

Although if there was a Dual channel DDR ram SMP board available, that would be ideal..

Cheers..

Prolly get a 1Ghz+ T-bird and 133A when it has been out for a while around April or so. Don't use my computer much now since I work on the road until April.

I'm gonna get a Palomino sometime after it comes out. Will only upgrade to DDR if Palomino gets a better performance gain than Thunderbird gets from DDR AND if DDR prices go down. There's no way I'm paying $199 for 128MB of PC2100 DDR when PC133 is so much cheaper and 95% as effective...

Currently have a non-overclocked Duron 600 w/128MB PC133.

<< My next upgrade will be a Voodoo5 >>

Do you think that that's such a good idea with 3dfx support dying in February meaning no more drivers?

Their drivers are more than final, tweaked to max, I dont see why that would be such a bad idea. It will be very cheap and will serve me just right between the gap from now to next gen.

I'm Thinking MSI K7T Turbo(kt133a)

I don't care much for my current MSI board though, its a 5169 with a K6-2 400(yes I need to upgrade badly). But from all I have read the MSI boards are coming on strong!

Well, I think I can wait till February. And by the way things are changing so fast who knows what is going to look good then?

KT133A/1GHz sure seems to be the price performance winner right now. But I'm looking for a drop in price on the CPU, so I might get a 1.2 instead.

The only thing I think I'm sure of, is that I won't be smping with intel chips this year(2001). Besides my existing bp6 that is.

dual something or other. either 700e's or athlons. hopefully ddr will have an impact on the smp systems. 2.4GHz of athlon power sounds like it will do some good at seti... much better than the 1.8 or 1.9 i could get out of the p3s. and the independent ev6. besides, i already have 3 p6 processors at my desk, athlons would break the monotony.

Well, i think i got my system pretty much in order and up in the high-end range (1GHz T-bird & 256MB Micron PC133/CL2), so no upgrades in that area anytime soon i think, but that dont mean there isnt anything left to wish for. ;) The first thing will most likely be a couple of 18gb Quantum Altas SCSI drives im bidding on to add to the one SCSI drive there, and so i can remove the old IDE's i have in now and im finally all SCSI. Next will be for the Matrox G800 (Matrox whats keeping you??)

I think I am going to skip the P4 and step up to a 1.5ghz+ AMD sometime next year. My stint w/ intel is over....

Me, I'm waiting for two things in the 1st 3/4's of next year... Jan 28, for the P3-1G to drop into $280 price range, and ~Mar-Apr for the NV20(whatever else might be out there)... That will put me in the 1Ghz club...

Then I'm going to sit and wait to see what happens with PIV and the Athlon... We should be seeing a die decrease to .13u at the end of the year, which should provide some nice increases in speed. Then at the end of the year I will look at a ~2G system...

I had a P3 500 up till recently when I bought a KT133 motherboard and a T'bird 800. My motherboard was completely incompatable with my GeForce card...after a few days of formats, bios upgrades, patches, and several hours on various forums AMD left a bad taste in my mouth. I went ahead and bailed on AMD and got a P4. Why you say? BECAUSE I CAN DAM IT! :)

Tbird 1100 with 512MB PC133 SDRAM on MSI K7T Pro2A....whenever UPS finally delivers the remaining parts :(

The wait for AMD760 has obviously been in vain. Either VIA has finally gotten their act together, or AMD never got it at all. DDR is price-gouged just like Rambust, with no real hardware support anytime soon.

19" monitor
30 - 40GB hard drive
maybe a RAID setup
Win2K

I'm planning on spanning this over six months or so. Possibly more depending on the $$$ situation. :)

MUST HAVE SMP!! Wanting to upgrade my dual celeron 366@550 for a while, been waiting for 760mp, but seeing the price and performce of DDR memory, it is totally not worth it if 760MP is not gonna support SDRAM right of the bat. May finally give up and just get two p3 850 instead or the 1G @100 FSB if cheap enough.....
