So what's your next upgrade? Will it be DDR, Rambus, Athlon, Pentium 4...?

About 3 months ago, I had my eyes set on dual Durons and an AMD760MP chipset based motherboard. But after seeing the performance of DDR and the low prices of AMD chips, I think that I will be going the KT133A/900MHz - 1GHz Athlon route after my Christmas $$$ comes through (I hope;)). What are you folks looking to upgrade to?

Duron/Tbird most likely. Depends when the next time I upgrade is, though.

I'm still wanting to get a dual Duron system eventually, and seeing as how I wont have money to buy a new computer till the summer, I may be shopping in the right timeline. :)

Edit: I'm running a Celeron 333@450 w/ 128 PC133 right now

I'm looking at a Feb/March upgrade.

I already have PC133 memory, so I am looking at a KT133A motherboard, duron? 600-800, and if the reviews look good one of those new 20 gig per platter harddrives.

Abit BH-6,C550A and a Maxtor 20 gig harddrive.

Planning on giving that to my Dad to replace his P133 and 2.1 gig WD.

I am not upgrading until I can get a motherboard that support 2 CPUs, DDR, and RAID. Hopefully the VIA based boards that can do this with P3s will be out soon...

Brian, you took the words right out of my mouth.(no telling what you might find in sharkey's mouth :))

I was thinking of a dual 1.2 birds, on a 760 MP platter and 256mb DDR but those thoughts vanish after Brandon put up that damn thread about the Backlash of rambus and DDR.

Now i am aiming at just a 1.2 bird, hedgehog and that new Gigabyte KT133 Raid board.

I'm gonna wait till their are significant changes. QDR, DRR II? Something worth upgrading from my Athlon 700.

I want to get some PC133 memory, preferably 256MB since its so cheap, and then like a 1.2, 1.3 or higher Thunderbird....I'll be alright for a while...
My Duron 750 rocks right now at default speed, maybe I'll see what the Durons have in store for us... :)

Speakers. There won't be anything that my 900 T-Bird, and 256 MB PC100, Radeon DDR can't handle for a long time (I hope).

A KT133A board and an Athlon CPU running at least 1.2 GHz with 256MB PC133 SDRAM.

I'll probably be moving to a 1.2 Thunderbird with an MSI K7T Turbo (once it is released). DDR doesn't seem to be much more than hype so far, so I figured I would capitalize on the low prices on PC133 at the moment and just go with a KT133A. I picked up a Gladiac GTS 32MB, which will go into an older system once the NV20 is released - the Ultra just doesn't seem like a smart choice right now. I am, however, beginning to seriously eye that Seagate X15 for my boot drive, maybe with a couple IBM 75GXPs for general storage. :D

Nothing for awhile. Current system is pretty darn good (I think so anyway). Fast and very stable. There has to be some BIG change for me to upgrade next time around.

CUSL2 815E
700e @ 933
256 meg Crucial PC133 (I may get more since its so cheap now)
Radeon 64 retail
MX300 Vortex 2 sound
IBM 75GXP 30 gig
48x Cdrom
8x/4x/32x Sony CDR
19" Mitsu 900U
Microsoft DSS80 speakers

Hey NSF4, I'm in the same boat as you. I got a 750 athlon, 256 mb ram, and a geforce 2. I don't think I will upgrade yet though. I'm stuck with my k7m motherboard and can't go past 1 ghz. Maybe when the 1 ghz cpus fall even lower in price, i will pick up a tbird 1 ghz. I don't see why you feel the need to upgrade, it probably won't be worth the money.

Well my PC upgrade is still new (900 T-bird & MSI K7T PRO ,256mb Crucial ram)so I will probably wait until QDR boards are released & see what`s available then, the only thing I will be buying before that is a new monitor & Video card upgrade maybe a NV20.

:)

Hey NFS4, how did you save up enough for another upgrade after splurging on an IPaq PDA? :D

I'm also looking for a Ghz CPU upgrade in the future....but it'll have to wait till next summer or so...

I'll be waiting for the duals. Get another 1GHz to go with the one I have already. Also, I hope to upgrade to 256 or 512 of ram. :)

<< I don't see why you feel the need to upgrade, it probably won't be worth the money. >>

1) 1 GHz Athlons are dirt cheap ($171)
2) 800 MHz Durons are flea bag cheap ($73)
3) 256MB PC133 memory is rock bottom cheap ($73)
4) Motherboards are around $110 - 120

If I could get $150 - $200 for my Athlon + motherboard + memory I'd be happy.

Hopefully Santa Claus will bring his checkbook :D But I have already started saving again for the next upgrade.

I personally just recently upgraded to my..

Asus A7V
T-Bird 900@1054 111FSB
2 128MB sticks of Mosel Rev 2 148 CLS2

I most likely plan to upgrade to Palomino when it comes out and whatever chipset is out then. Im sure we will see a chipset that makes better use of DDR within then next 6 months.

I am going with a 1.2ghz T-Bird with the 133 bus and a KT133A board, either an MSI, Epox, or Abit board. I will be able to do some FSB overclocking with the Mushkin I already have, and then I can wait for the 760/DDR solutions to mature a little.
