So what's Valve up to these days anyway?

After reading the latest interview with them, i'm a little confused. What are they working on anyway? They decided to let another company develop Half-Life 2. So have they been doing since 1999? Working on the Quake2-powered Team Fortress 2? Scary. Do they actually expect to sell any copies of a game that will be 2 generations behind by the time it comes out? Hmm maybe this is just a bad April Fools joke?

I don't understand what's taking Valve so long to make TF2. All they had to do was upgrade the graphics engine for TFC and add new maps in and they'd be golden. I know that sounds easier than it actually is, but they're taking way too long.
TFC is one of my favorite online games ever. And yes, I have played CS before 😉

TF2 is now being made using a proprietary TF2 engine, developed by Valve, no longer based on the Q2 engine. It has become a much more ambitious project all around, which accounts for the delay. Admittedly, like DNF, it is now years overdue, but they both look awesome and hopefully they will still be excellent when they are released.

Don-Vito beat me to it, but yes, TF2 now has its own, in-house engine powering it.

Many of the HL upgrades that you see are actually testing different pieces of the TF2 technology, like the network code, spectator features, etc.

Valve. What a joke. They make HL and then can't do jack-sh*t. TF2 was supposed to come out in Jan'99 originally. I'll be surprised if it ever sees the light of day.

<< Valve just filed for chapter 11 bankrupsty(sp?) so they arent doing much. Lol. >>

Are we COMPLETELY sure this is not an April Fool's announcement? They are a small company run by MS millionaires, and I would be surprised if they had to go into Chap 11.

Considering how much Valve has done for the gaming community (most notably in terms of their continued efforts to improve and expand online gaming), I don't think it is fair to be so critical just because TF2 is delayed.
