I dont get it,
ive been using PCs my whole life and recently got a powermac tower because i wanted OSX desktop.
I really don't see why PC users are so negative towards mac (in repsonse to that gay/mac thread),
i personally dont mind either one but i do belive OSX is better and more productive over all than windows.
On the same token, why dont people hate SUN users? Or Sgi users? Their systems are nearly identical to mine (RISC based unix machines),
so whats the deal. (ive owned both )

And yeah i dont like the fact that hardware-wise macs are little behind (bus speed, ram etc) but that doesnt make the system less productive for what i do. You know 95% of the time you do not use the full potential of your 2+ghz cpu. For that 95% my mac is more productive solution...

EDIT:
dont let this turn into apple vs pc debate. Im just cruious why people hate apple, and not SUN, SGI etc. The machines are very similar, so i dont see the diff.

I have found that people who bash Apple computers do so without even using them.

The truth is that most people who make fun of Apple computers DON'T KNOW WHY they do it.

there is absolutely zero reason to like them

not as common --> less common software
2x the price as a PC and 1/2 the speed

what the hell is good about them? absolutely nothing.

If you would use one for a week instead of spouting off with some used-up arguments, I guarantee you that you would think otherwise.

The price thing is my big issue - I like their laptops a lot as far as looks go but the price vs. performance ratio is horrible.

See, someone would have to actually USE a Mac with OS X on it to know that.

A lot to do with the history, especially in the late 80s. Back then, it was common for a Mac II system to cost $5-$6k average price. At that time, Apple could get away with charging such outrageous prices because their Mac's had better intuitive software, with hardware spec being a little superior to the PC camp. Many of us grew our animosity towards Mac users (most of which whom Daddy bought for them). However, the tables turned long ago, PCs have superior software and hardware, yet Apple still charges ridiculous prices (albeit, not quite as ridiculous as long ago).

unix based machine -=> all the open source software ported. Theres is equivalent for jsut about everything (except kazaaa...damn it!)
where exactly are you pulling this 1/2 speed crap from? You do realize that RISC and CISC cpus dont compare in terms of mhz (hell even cisc with different instructions dont compare look at p4 and athlon). Apple could do the same thing and rename all their cpus a la athlon (powerpc g4 2500+ clocked at 1.5ghz)

I will give you the price however, its pretty bloated. But if you shop around you can find one cheap. I got my tower for 600 bucks when the ebay market value was about 1300.

amazingly slow? awesome!!
if you could use OS/X on a PC that would be cool perhaps... but you can't.. so, macs still suck.

Exactly, though Athlons are not pure CISC. They are a combo of RISC and CISC.

1. Twice the price, half the performance.
2. Games? I didn't think so.
3. Amazing OS? No thanks, I already have win2k.

So what's there to like? Absolutely nothing.

But isn't just easier to just use the same hackneyed arguements over and over again when you really don't know what you are talking about?

Uh....? Since when has bloated ass XP ever beaten a UNIX based OS in raw speed?

How is it slow?

And why would OS X be cool on a PC and not on a Apple?

so whats up with people not liking macs?
You might as well ask "So what's up with people not liking black people?"

No one has any real reason, it's just ignorance on the part of people who have difficulty thinking for themselves and forming thier own opinions.

Actually, you're right. OSX is one of the best OSes out there...if you look at the new developements for Windows Longhorn, it's pretty humorous when you see what's happening: They're making XP better by basically making it more like OSX. I own a homebuilt Mac that I run iTunes and other mac-exclusive programs on, and it kicks ass.

BTW guys, good job at jumping on the flamebait. ;)
