So whats up with earphones now?!?!?

So I noticed that MP3 earphones are using the 1 line system then split into 2 parts. What I dont understand is why do they make 1 side wire longer than the other? Usually the left side is really short and the right side is long. When I bought my 50 dollar earphones today and opened it I almost wanted to return it because I thought it looked funny. Im not sure if I stated this well but whatever.

It's been that way for decades and it's because people don't position their mp3/cd/whatever players in the middle of their bodies.

it's so you can loop the longer wire behind your neck so the wires don't get in your way. I think it's a great design.
